Title: Installation of TP on SMF 1.1.2 problems
Post by: djrolla on March 09, 2007, 07:47:28 PM
I tried to automatically install the TP package through SMF using a mod...  but when I went to click apply, it gave an error saying that the file was corrupted or the wrong file type.
So I did a manual install, copying all the folders over to the forum folder.  Now when I go to the discussion forum (http://boonetrace.freehostia.com/forum/) it gives me: Unable to load Themes/default/index.template.php!  I got a whole list of warning messages when I installed TP, but at the end it said that it installed.  I'm guessing I will have to start totally over for the discussion forum or does anyone have any idea of what to do?
Thanks,
DJ

Whats wrong with reading up before going a head on installing things, and continue even after "loads" of errors as you described.

I suggest you use the search or just look at the sticky topics in this boarad, theymight rescue you from your ignorance

And since people on this board seem to be rude then I will uninstall this software from my board and redo it.  I'll consider it a learning lesson not to install anything from you guys.

And by the way, I didn't continue anything with all the errors... I followed everything exactly, it went through the install with the errors and at the bottom of the page it told me that TP was installed.  I had no way of stopping it, once it found the first error, since the whole screen popped up at the same time.  So, I went to the forum's website, and that is when it gave me the second problem with not being able to load the template.

And yes, I have searched, and didn't find the answer I needed.

Oh yeah- and what's the problem with re-reading your post for mistakes before you go ahead and click post?

one post made, and you havent botherd to search, so please dont even go there.
If you had done that, you would have seen the 3 sticky posts in the install board, you even had to open the install board before you posted, so amazing you actually missed them totally.

Read them, follow the steps, and you will be good to go.
Especially the manual install sticky will help.

Well, no thanks to your repeated attacks, and after checking all the files by hand, I found out one of them did not copy over, causing all this problem.  I got it to work now.
And yes, only one post...   I decided to download this and install it today...  and yes, I read through the stickies, and no, they didn't help me.  I'm sure you were a one poster at one time too.  That comment was about as mature as seniors in high school calling freshmen fresh meat.
And since we both seem to not have that much time on our hands, why don't you cut out the attacks and state fact?

Cause you have the time to search for them as they are posted so many times in here already...

And kiss on you to  :D

Glad you got it sorted all by your self

@djrolla
Consider the fact that this is a multi-national support board.  Not everyone is an adept english speaking person such as yourself, and the translation might not come off the way you think it should.  In fact, sometimes the translation to english looks totally messed up and could appear rude when in fact it wasn't the intent of the person making the post.

Secondly, I frequent more than a couple hundred forums on the internet, and the first thing I do is search when I'm looking for something.  I realize you mentioned you searched, but sometimes it takes more than just doing a search.  If you were to read the installation board, you would immediately find the information you needed.  But, just for your info, I know exactly what the error message you received was, and had you simply copied part of that message:
"corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF"
and put it into the search box, you would have received a few posts directly related to what you were looking for, and the answers in them.

I've attached a screenshot of my search results based on the "part" of the error message as my search string.  It took me all of 30 seconds to research your issue and find the correct post.

Now this may all seem trivial to yourself, but please consider that there are thousands of members on this site, and literally hundreds of questions that are duplicates of others already asked, researched, and answered.  The reason G6 might have seemed rude to you is because she has probably personally answered your question to a hundred other members already over the course of the past couple weeks alone.  I implore you to consider what you would tell the users on your own forum after answering that same question just 20 or 30 times, having the question/answer posted numerous times on your board, and still get 20 or 30 more members ask that same exact question.

Take these things into consideration, and you might be able to empathize with someone when they are being short in their answer.  Also consider the fact that you no sooner registered on this website, then posted a question answered numerous times expecting instant gratification by being answered from someone who volunteers there time without pay to be at your beckon call.  It's not something that most people would do even if they are paid to do it.  Case in point, any Technical Support number you call for a product you purchased.  If you would have read enough posts on this board, you would have found that G6 is one of the most caring and giving people when it comes to giving of her free (and $free$) time.

The point here I'm trying to make, is that from the onset, it certainly doesn't appear that you did very much research before deciding to simply take the easy way out by asking a question for which you certainly could not have possibly noticed was already answered so many times already.

And now that this has been answered, yet again, this topic is now locked.
