Post by: Amay_Zing on November 15, 2005, 07:27:39 PM
Hi

Is there another programme for looking at coding?  I see sometimes people typee at line 365 etc but all i see is a mass of characters in notepad (not very nice and hard to find things)  makes me cross-eyed  :-\

You need a html/php editor like Dreamweaver or something similar. Dreamweaver is expensive, tho. There are free programs available on the net but I can't think of any at the moment. Try download.com or tucows.com and search for html editor or php editor.

php expert editor and context are very similar editors. PHPExpert costs about $35 I think, while Context is free.

I have and it is good. I have also downloaded and installed PHP 4.4. If you do this you can link to the PHP.exe for code and syntax checking.

Been playing with phpnuke, java, etc. for a few years. Tinyportal & SMF for a few short days. I can really recommend another, very good, free, editor.

Crimson Editor from http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ (http://www.crimsoneditor.com/)

QuoteSyntax Highlighting for HTML, C/C++, Perl, Java, Matlab and LaTeX. Also, it can be extended for other programming languages based on custom syntax files.

Other features include undo/redo, user tools, macros, spell checker and more.

All are good ones..I prefer PHP Expert Editor, but EditPlus is also a fav these days.

There is a notepad similar one called Metapad. I have used that instead of notepad for a while now. Much better than notepad.

Hey guys. Does anyone know of a freeware/shareware software tool that would make it easier to do theme changes?  Right now I'm just editing the text document, but I don't even have a color chart so its very slow going.

Does anyone have any recommendations on programs?  Stuff like dreamwaver, but free?  Thanks  Wink

(The good news is that this means I do in fact have 1 forum installed, tp installed on that, and customized!   No working on visual stuff. YES!   Afro )

Oops. Sorry.   I didn't think that was graphically oriented.  I'll give it a shot

I don't know of anything that works with PHP that is graphically oriented.

Doh!   Oh well.  ;)   OK does anyone at least have a link to a color chart or something I can use?  The comments in the style sheet are pretty easy to follow.  Hopefully I can leverage some of my sql knowledge in terms of understanding php.

Heres a nice little app that I use

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/colormania.html

"ColorMania is an on-screen color picker that allows you to select a color from anywhere on your screen and then copy the Hex (HTML, Delphi, VB, C++) or RGB values to the clipboard. It comes with a small preview that lets you a colored font on the background color you selected as well as option to modify the color and save it as one of 5 favorites. In addition, you can set the zoom factor and generate random colors. Easy to use, compact and basic in features.

There's actually a color tool that you can install as an extension in Firefox. I think it's called color picker.

I have tried a few apps, and this is the software I am working with at the moment...

I like it.... it's a freebie too and for only 3 mgs u can't go wrong...

PHP Designer 2005 (http://www.mpsoftware.dk/phpdesigner.php)

If anyone else has tried this or wants to try it.. I actually wouldn't mind knowing what others think :)

I've used that, I didn't like the search function, f3 (search again) particularly, only worked when it felt like it. The search in PHP Editor will also search in folders as well as the current file. Otherwise it was OK.
