I have gotten my troubled install along to the point where it appears to be installed on the package manager's side. In my forum error log there is this message.

Thank you for trying out TinyPortal.
Of course I try to restart the forum but I don't see any changes in my forum and there is no Tiny Portal controls in the admin section either. I'm sorry if this problem is too pedestrian but I really want to get this to work I have been on hold for at least a week while hoping for some assistance. What going on?

First off i whish you have looked around a bit in this very thread, cause all your answers are there to your questions ;)
You have done the part with the DB have beein installed, but for some reason your files didnt extract correct, probably because of file permission issues.
What you could have done if you read through some of the top posts in this forum, would have been to create a Tempfolder in the Packages folder, and also changed the permissions to 777 on that folder manually. Then continue with the install.
But now we are passed that step, so you have to do 2 steps more in order to get TP to show now.
The last part is already done by the first attempt of your install (the database) so we have to go to the file part instead.
Download the manual install package from the downloadsection here on TinyPortal.
Extract the files on your local computer.
Then through FTP upload and overwrite the files there if it asks you to overwrite.
When that step is done, you have to make some copy and past of code to your SMF files. ( IF you DONT have other mods installed, you can use the PREMADE files from the zip attachment in the sticky post in this board).
If you HAVE mods installed, you need to manually edit in the code by copy and paste with help from this (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=7884) document. Follow the steps all the way down.
If you dont want to do this manually, you can still use the premade files in the stickypost, but you will loose the other mods as the files gets replaced, and you have to install them again AFTER you have installed TP.
Uninstall the other mods, and continue to next part.
Use the zip file, download it from the sticky post, extract the zipfile, upload OVERWRITE the old files, refresh and TP are installed and ready to go.
Thank you for your attention to my problem. I did do the temp folder, chmod'ed to 777 thing, I remembered it from another package manager issue I had with Ad Mod a while back. I have read most of what I could find on this subject here, but didn't find anything that seemed to address my particular problem and then linked it to this particular solution, no doubt I missed it. I have learned to move slowly and carefully when making changes to my forums, in order to avoid applying incorrect solutions. I will try out your suggestions tonight and let you know how it goes. Thanks for your time.

Your welcome :)
Slow can be good sometimes to ::)
Something seems horribly wrong. My ftp program had a batch properties function that allows you to select it to always overwrite, never overwrite or prompt before overwriting. In the past when I upgraded SMF and was instructed to overwrite files, I simply selected that function and let the ftp program do its job and every thing went fine. I am trying to follow your instructions but now my ftp program is refusing to overwrite even though it is locked on overwrite. I have copied a bit of the error mesage that the ftp program generates to show you what is happening I don't understand this.

You get the idea there is miles of this. I went into the admin section of my SMF package manager under options and tried to use the Cleanup Permissions feature but got an error there as well.
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /forum/index.php.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
When I select All files are writable and click the Change File Permissions buton it then asks for my ftp password then sits and churns away until it gives up and I get the message above. What is happening?

The good news is my forum is still there and intact!
It is probably due to owner ship issues. Ask your host to change the files so that you own them.
A happy ending to my ordeal :D  ;D
The best part is that I actually came up with the final solution to my problem. I had to use the advice above since everything was so fraged up. But the main problem was due to a recent upgrade to IE7. My Batch FTP couldn't overwrite any of the files because the security settings on IE7 were preventing it. I would bet that is where all my problems with the package manager were coming from. I did a quick search of TP and don't even get a hit for IE7 or internet explorer 7. So thanks to every one who cared, tried to help, and who helped, and a pat on the back to myself for hanging in there to the bitter(sweet) end.

We are glad you have a Happy Ending ;D
