Title: Shoutbox +add ons and more
Post by: brianjw on February 25, 2007, 10:34:43 PM
I think that the shoutbox should have color schemes to choose from :coolsmiley: that would be cool :coolsmiley:

The more is that there should be a kind of bloc called a "Chat" block. This would look exactly like the shoutbox except it would autorefresh without annoyance or refreshing the entire page, just the shoutbox ;D
This would have color schemes too and would look exactly like the shoutbox.

exactly, it's very irritating when the shoutbox refreshes the entire page ... causes the server to bear a lot more load than it usually whould have ... considering the purpose of the shoutbox is to reduce off-topic interactions in forums and usage of PMs, this might not exactly be a cause of concern while the initial code was written ...

Then again, what about those operating on shared hosts ??

So you mean that you only use the shoutbox of the entire site and forum?
The shoutbox refreshes from every click made in the forum and site.
But offcourse, the shoutbox is the only thing you use on your site, the rest can go.  ;)

"Reduce the off-topic interactions"...? Where have this been said anywhere?

The shoutbox was meant as a way to leave messages while also surfing the forums. If it was to actually be a primary function, it would have been a chat instead. Actually..the shoutbox have its own page, the block is just a quick-entry for that page.
