Title: TP package install error - Help
Post by: Odbayar on February 16, 2007, 01:23:22 PM
Hi All,
Sorry If I spammed or made you uneasy.
I am new into this tinyportal.
I want to test SMF and TinyPortal.
But I can't install TP package.
I have installed SMF properly in my local machine. It works fine.
But when it comes to install TinyPortal I meet some problem.
I have downloaded  TP package/compressed zip file/  and tried to install via admin/packages/download packages/upload a package.

Then I clicked on [ Apply Mod ] But it gives following error.

QuoteThe package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Where did I wrong. Please help me.
Any suggestions will be appreciated .

P.S I am using SMF 1.1.2

Read there. You just upload the tinyportal files in to the folders that were given in the zip. You do not edit any files manually :)

Thank you  brianjw
I am really appreciated your big help.
I believe www.tinyportal.co.uk should uptade it's donwload section.
Because newcomers, like me, will go to the SMF and install SMF 1.1.2 then come back here download TinyPortal v0.9.7   package and meet with problem.
Anywayz. Keep up the good job.

i think tinyportal should become a integrated part of versions of smf. Like you can still get the plain old smf at smf website but if you want to download smf with tinyportal you should be able to download it from here :D

I upgraded starting with SMF 1.1.1, then installing TP 0.9.7.1. Next I installed needed SMF mods with the Package Manager. Then I applied the 1.1.2 patch upgrade, again using the Package Manager.

No errors. All is well. :)

Wow , Well done Eddy Newell.

I took other way. I installed fresh install of SMF 1.1.2  and then installed TP 0.971 manually.

i tried to install tinyportal through the zip file uploaded by IchBinâ„¢. (the one altered to be compatible with smf 1.1.2)

My SMF 1.1.2 was fresh and I didn't install any mod.

It says you installed the package successfully. But nothing happens no changes to my forum.  Then i tried to uninstall it but it says this package is corrupted or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Then I took another way. I deleted all pre-installed stuffs.
And installed fresh version of SMF 1.1.2 again. Then installed TP manually as explained by G6â„¢. I could install TP but my SMF turned into version 1.1.1.

1.When will be the next version of TP released?
2.Is it OK to being with SMF 1.1.1 + TP 0.971 ?
3.Will you guys release again SMF 1.1.2 compatible TP 0.971?
4.Does SMF have option to restore the database?

I mean. This install of my SMF+TP is fully messed one. Therefore I will install new fresh version of SMF+TP in the future when they release and Transfer my  database to my new install ? Is it possible ?

Any help will be much appreciated.

1. Dont know, and thats the best answer we can give you
2. I installed SMF 1.1.2 with tp installed from the link in the admin panel of SMF (the boxes where the manager connect to SMF when you enter the package manager) So try install from there now even if TP is installed, It worked fine for me.
3. It's Blocs desission to upgrade the package, i have not read or heard about him update the package for MSF 1.1.2, but IchBins package should work fine.
4. No, you have to use your PhP myadmin for you database to be able to restore an older DB

The SMF 1.1.2 patch should work.

First install SMF1.1.1. Then install Tiny portal 0.9.7.1. Then apply the upgrade patch for SMF 1.1.2 with the package manager. That's what worked for me.

If you have SMF 1.1.1 and TP 0.9.7.1 already, then all you should have to do is apply the SMF 1.1.2 upgrade patch.

not only TP... my Maximum mods are giving error, all those MODs of which owners are active, they have released new files to deal with it... but few of those of which development had stoped long back, is unusable...

Finally I managed to install SMF 1.1.2 + TP 0.971 .
All my problem was the CHMOD  setup.
I read the explanation about how to set CHMOD . Then I tried and it worked smoothly . And also I realized that Internet Explorer should being used while configuring a site.

Here is the link explains about CHMOD.
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=6174.0;prev_next=next#new

For who having problems with installing SMF+TP ,
please read this material and use IE.

I am really appreciated to who wrote this material and tried to help me, IchBin, G6, and Shadow Queen.

If I did sound like stupid crap, my apologize.
Keep up the Good Job. Now I will start maintaining my site .
I am happy now.

I am new around here, I tried to install tiny portal and get all the same errors. I tried it manually and it wont work there. I have the latest version of SMF and am running Joomla, so I am not sure if that is giving me the issue with the install.
I like tiny portal and how it looks, since I tried a few bridges for SMF and joomla and they don't do to well.
So if anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I would like to use tiny portal so if it is Joomla causing my errors, then I will see what to do...
