Go to ...

Admin ---> Tiny Portal settings --> Front page

There you will find the option to display posts from a specific board

As for download manager, it is built in, just click...

Admin --> Download Manager
and its settings can be found there.

As for displaying news threads, you will have to create a news board and use something like this to display it. (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=7596.0)

--edit, you beat me Aku but I'm posting anyway. :D

Your english is fine. But we also have a dutch forum if you'd like to post there.

http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?board=93.0

Take a look in the Admin panel > TinyPortal > Settings > Frontpage. There are a lot of options to choose from. You can choose "what" to show on the frontpage. You can have it be news that automatically pulls topics from the boards that you want (you specify which boards). You can have a combination of News from boards and Articles. You can use just blocks on your front page. There are a lot of options built in that you just need to explore so you can see how things work.

Download manager is built into TinyPortal. If you don't see it, its because it is not turned on. Admin panel > TinyPortal > Settings > Modules

Thanks for the fast response, i will take a look,

-but can you just select forum items you want to show @ the frontpage ?

Edit: i am using SMF 1.1.2.. this version fully compatible with  Tinyportal 0.97.right?

yes you will be able to show news item on the front page from certain boards which you select

the current version of TP will not install on SMF 1.1.2, but its just a minor issue and soon when tp098 comes out it will be compatible

i first installed 1.1.1 of SMF, then i installed 0.97 version of TP then I updated to 1.1.2 version of SMF but it gives some weird results, many option don't work :S
this site is already using the 0.98 version of tinyportal, when is the public release?

You can install 1.1.2 SMF and then just use the package I posted in the installation board to install TinyPortal.

Hello there. I have a similar question, but to frame it up I need to pass along some background.

I currently use SMF/Enigma. With Enigma development at a standstill, I am trying to convert to TinyPortal. Yet there is a feature in Enigma that I absolutely have come to rely upon and need.

When you start a topic in Enigma, one of the panels on the page gives you a series of checkboxes that allows you to make it a news item to display on the front page (see picture attached). This allows the administrator to make any particular first post a news item to appear on the front page regardless of which particular forum it is in. It is quite a handy tool allowing me to pick and choose what I want to display.

Is there any way to do this in TinyPortal?

Not a feature of TinyPortal yet Bill. I know at one point block was looking into something similar, but I don't know what his plans are.

Well thanks for the info. I may have continue portal hunting then. :'( I'm stuck at 1.0.10 until I find something with very similar features.

I'm with you Bill, I too am an Enigma user.  :'(

Its unfortunate that guy doesn't have the time to put into enigma. That seemed like a pretty nice script from what I've seen.

It's great, I'm saddened to see development come to a standstill.

I guess my biggest problem is that I am happy with it. Enough so that it makes it tough to find another portal that does what it does. But I'll figure it out. I'm still experimenting with TP on a subforum, learning the in's and outs.

Yes, it's a great script, but when you loose all your help not much can be done... It would be nice if some people would step up and help him get back on his feet. :)

How do you get your front page articles to be visable to guest or users before they log in?
Title: Re: TP, Frontpage news

I presume by articles you mean forum posts that are on the front page? I do that by allowing anyone to be able to read posts in 90% of my forum.

If I put a forum post up that you have to be logged in to see, then if you aren't logged in it wont show for you at all on the front page.

My apologies if I misunderstood the question.

I want to have an article telling about my site and how to register, and other news on the front page that anyone can view.  I want the forum to be for registered members only.

When I post an article and make it visable on the front page, and then log out, the article is not visable...just a login screen.

Normally that would be set in the guest permissions. I think Bloc would have to add this there.

If you allow guest to browse the forum they can veiw the article, but if you don't the articles won't be visable to guest.

As IchBin said that Bloc is looking into something similar. I am a user of TinyPortal and say that you should use TinyPortal mainly because of its GREAT, FREE support and because there is alot of features built into it as well as future options :D

Well, so far it's my lead candidate for an Enigma replacement.

I would also consider posting some feature ideas in the Bug Tracker as Bloc checks those :D
