Post by: lorenzone92 on February 12, 2007, 01:47:25 PM

There will be problems with TP compatibility?

can we just patch 1.1 with tp or will it be a problem

If you don't have any mods causing any conflict with the code changes everything should be just fine. I just updated a site of mine with no problems.

Hi,
Just installed a new 1.1.2 SMF to evaluate.
Tried uploading the latest TP from here today, and I get this message from SMF:

The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF
(PS, The ZIP file I have downloaded is OK)

Should I install package under 1.1.1 and then upgrade to 1.1.2 ?

andyt, yes, give that a try and see what happens. We know that TP will install under SMF 1.1.1.

Thats the only way you'll get it to work with the next version of SMF. Actually try adding this to your URL when you're about to install the mod. See if it will work.

;version_emulate=1.1.1;

Isn't there a manual_install file you fixed up awhile back IcH?

Well there were a lot of changes in this one. I'm not sure if just changing the package will work. Worth a shot I suppose. Let me upload it here in just a minute and we'll see if people can use it.

thats weird i ran the update on my 9.7 here:

http://www.stormlrdsreality.co.uk/final/index.php?theme=20

and went smooth as silk, I'll also got a copy of the mod as a text file for yall to view and maybe it contains something that affected 9.8

Hi again,
Just did the manual install - it all seemed to work OK - the manual php file looked good.
Just don't know what I should see now though ? SMF is still reporting no packages installed
I have a feeling that unzipping may not have overwritten any files - I'm guessing the themes are updated by TP ?

I just updated my SMF in the package manager to 1.1.2 without any problems. Didn't have to install TP or anything afterwards.

worked for me no problem.  I just have to go into my package manager and update the packages that have missing 'uninstall' links.

for those I'll just go to forum/Packages:
- copy package to my desktop
- unzip it
- edit package-info.xml
- add 1.1.2 to the install and uninstall lines of the file
- close the file and update zip file
- upload back to forum/Packages and replace existing file

I ran the upgrade.php via my FF browser, reckon that was why TP was completely gone?

Thanks RoarinRow

Thats all I had to do:
- edit package-info.xml
- add 1.1.2 to the install and uninstall lines of the file (only where 1.1.1 already appears)

re-zip, upload and install this package

That got me working on a brand new 1.1.2 SMF install, and TinyPortal TP_0971.zip install

Thanks for your help

If you have the Advanced Visual Verification Mod installed you will get test fails in a number of files. Modifying the package info xml file to include 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 doesn't bring up an uninstall link.

Yes, the new version of SMF. The actacded, TP and the mod's won't work on the new version of SMF..

Be best to wait to update to the new version.  For TP, and other thing's get updata to the new version.

Skhilled try it out and it's won't work at all with TP or whatever...

I don't know if you can edit something's to get TP or the mod's to work with the version...

Well i updated and it didn't effect TP at all.

Not sure about a fresh install and how it would effect it.

But im sure adding 1.1.2 to the package-info.xml would help.

Rather than modifying each xml, you can make SMF pretend to be another version (As far as the package manager is concerned) by adding:

;version_emulate=1.1

To the URL in the package manager to make it pretend to be a different version.
(as posted (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=149553.msg956706#msg956706) by Grudge over at SMF)

That's good you didn't have no problem at all.

But i do think if you did a fresh install of 1.1.2 it's might be problem's with anything installing mod's and TP but i'm might be wrong about that...

Did you do this for TinyPortal as well?

I just updated one of my packages as you mentioned and I now get the following error:
"Not unique table/alias: 'pin'
File: /home/www/riverside.doddemagen.com/Sources/Load.php
Line: 895

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.2, while your database is at version 1.1.1. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php."

Everything was working fine before.  Ideas?

Just follow the unscreen instructions from there.

and since i've never had to do this before, how do i save my membership & post database so i don't lose everything?  or will that be necessary to fix this?

There's no need to start completely over. If you just upload a fresh set of files from the SMF upgrade package your forum will be as good as new with memberbase/posts still in tact.

Once you have it working that way, just download the zip I put in the installation board for installing TP on SMF 1.1.2

IchBin, I have uploaded a fresh set of files using the package manager.  If that's not what you meant, let me know.  Should I disable all mods that I have currently installed before running the upgrade?

I'm also wondering if this error (Not unique table/alias: 'pin'
File: /home/www/riverside.doddemagen.com/Sources/Load.php
Line: 895) has anything to do with the location mod that I have installed?

Why am I freaking out, you might ask!!!???!!!!  I have an online meeting with our chapter to decide if we want to switch from ProBoards to SMF.  I'm supposed to present this site at that time.  Believe me, I want SMF.  It's one of the best forums out there, in my opinion.  Plus, loads more options.

Thanks for everybody's help.

Pin I believe is located with the location mod yes. Unfortunately you won't get much help from here on that, as we are not the author. I would go through and delete any tables related to that and uninstall the mod. If you'd like I can get your forum running with TinyPortal if you want. PM me the details of Forum Admin account, FTP, and Access to your phpMyAdmin to edit your database. If you want to do this, please make a backup of your entire site before you send me these details.

I'm holding off for a security reason. I perceive the most significant threat to my board is that of spambots. I have been using the Advanced Visual Verification mod, it doesn't work with 1.1.2 and I don't think that the visual verification in SMF is good enough.

Same here, my friend...3 seconds.  I couldn't believe it was over.  lolo

Alright, Everything is working correct now?

Security is a good reason for me

True about that.  But most of the mods wont work correct after the update....

One of my co-admins is a windows security expert, we expect it.

On the 12/13 Feb my board error log registered 8 failed attempts by one russian bot, same IP. If a person misread the letters and failed they would try again. All of these were hours apart, that tells me it was a bot and it wasn't googling.

Hi , I am a newbie . I read thru 7 pages of this thread and searched the archives here and at SMF . But ,please forgive me, I still can't understand how to install Tiny Portal .

I have upgraded to SMF 1.1.2 .
Would it be best for me to uninstall it or will that get complicated .

I have downloaded TP_0971.zip but I do not know what to do next .

A member set up the SMF for our site . He is no longer interested in helping out . I am the site owner but I don't have SMF experience . He set up pretty basic . I think this is the only mod as listed in the packages uploaded anyway .

LogModAccountEdits    1.8
I don't know what this does . Should I uninstall that mod and 1.1.2
and then install TP ?
Or is there a simple way to install TP over the 1.1.2 ?

And can sks tell me in detail the steps to install TP please ?

Clair, theres a basic how to in the docs section of this board. You should find all that you need to know about installation there. As far as installing, if you already have SMF 1.1.2 updated, then you'll need to use the install package I posted in the installation board to install TP 0.9.7.1 until Bloc releases TP 0.9.8.

worked for me no problem.

I did just what you indicated (added 1.1.2 where it already has 1.1.1 mentioned), and TP installed without any problem.
Thanks.

Look and see if we have the Italian Language in our downloadsection.
If ther is one, you download it, extract the files to your local PC and then upload the files in to your /forum/Themes/Default/languages/ here is where the language files should go.

Yesterday G6 went to may forum and solved my problem, it seems that before start the TP 0.971 update aon a smf 1.1.2 forum , you have to disable all additional blocs created in the old installation of TP.

Additional blocs coused the forum not to load , so G6 had to disable them by code.

G6 check if the solution i write here is correct  ;)

I would like to give a special thank to G6 and all the TP Staff  that once more help me to solve my problem in less then an hour.

Best regards,

Wow. Long thread!

I just upgraded to SMF 1.1.2 and tried what has been suggested so far, but when I try to apply TP_0971, I get the following errors:

Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

9. Execute Modification ./Sources/Load.php Test failed
10. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/index.template.php Test failed
11. Execute Modification ./Sources/Subs.php Test failed
13. Execute Modification ./Sources/Security.php Test failed

Can someone advise as to how to proceed?

from my recent experience i suggest you to disable (not remove) all custom content of TP (RSS,custom pages, custom box etc..) ,remove all packages insalled in smf, select defaul language to english and set the theme to the default.

Then try to install TP mod and if it is successfull try to reinstall other modules and custom content...

Actually you don't have to disable the blocks before you upgrade. The problem was that you had some SSI code in the blocks which was changed when you updated. So the SSI code was trying to call home and nobody was there. I disabled your leftpanel in the index.template.php and then was able to access your admin panel. This is a good lessson for you in that, you should LEAVE BLOCKS SET TO OFF while in the admin section. :) This way you'll always be able to access your admin section if a block goes crazy on you.

If you use custom language (your own) you need to add the language files in /themes/default/language/ add YOUR language files here (if they are avaliable in the downloadsection, dont know what language you use)

Look in the dowloadsection if you can find it there.
If not, you have to rename download the english language pack and rename them so they have the same name as the others in your language, that will bring the strings but in english

I used Fantastico to do the installation & it selects the utf-8 language English as the default. I went into 'Admin', under 'Configuration' I clicked 'Server Settings' and next to 'Default Forum Language', I chose 'English' as the default. Good to go now!@
