Title: Install TP - Error
Post by: fauzimz on February 01, 2007, 07:58:01 AM
I got this when try to install from the admin panel....

You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

What should I do now...TQ

First, make sure that you have a folder in your packages directory called temp and that it is writable. Also make sure that the packages directory itself is writable. (both should have the permissions set at 775 or 777. whichever one will work. its different for different servers)

Lastly but not least..

If your server is not having proper writable path to temperory files then it will not work at all.
ie. "upload_tmp_dir" must be set to a valid directory in your php.ini

YOu can check that using phpinfo()

i get the following error :
Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

8.     Execute Modification     tinyportal09x-11rc3.mod     Modification parse error

How to solve this. TQ

Seems like you have used the hack of the last release of TP, so the only way for you is to install the manuall way now.
The hack didnt include the uninstall information so thats why it gives you the error.

tp goes on the top level of your forum.  You must chmod 777 all files/folders/directories in your forum directory.
One way to do this is to enter your forum admin>packages>options>cleanup permissions>make all files writable.  this is usually done before or immediately after upload>install>apply mod

the other way to chmod 777 is to open server control panel and go through each file/folder/directory below your forum folder and check the box change permisions window value to 777, and hit change permissions.

I guess this would be a good time to know what type of control panel you have.

you have to unzip tpv0.9.x.zip file and extract the files and folders to your desktop.>

open ftp to server>open forum directory>   This is where tiny portal goes, and you should see tiny portal directory folders there if you tried unsuccessfully to upload through package manager.

on local side of ftp open 1st folder...I think it is attachments...
open attachments folder in server window, so that you have the matching files and individually overwrite each file/folder/image to the matching directory on the server side of ftp window.

I think this will get you started.   There are tutorials on this written in documentation, and in installation support forums here.

I'll check back later to see if this helped you, Goodluck.  I experienced what you are going through and I know how hard it can be if you are new to php, mysql, and tiny portal software.  Don't worry...It is actually easier than it looks, just a bit tedious :o whenever you have to do a manual install.

Research chmod 777  I believe that the smf online manual lists the exact folders and sub-folders that have to be chmod.
