Title: Need Arcade Help
Post by: WSA on November 02, 2005, 04:08:25 PM
Does anybody have the time to help me install the arcade mod on my site?  I just tried downloading it through the package manager and then it said something about 2 or 3 items failing.

I uninstalled it and deleted it because I'm scared. :-\

Does anybody have some time to help me figure this out?

thanks,

What do you need help with WSA? It's kind of hard to help you if you can't give us any details as to what you're stuck on? If it fails on the test install, you'll probably have to install it manually.

I am trying this right now.

http://smfarcade.arcade.web.com/index.php?topic=1606.0

I just replaced and added the required code and transferred back into the FTP.  Next step.

It looks like it installed correctly now.  I am still getting a few errors but I don't have any games in there yet.

I need to find out where to find them but smfgames.com is nowhere to be found anymore.

Ok, when I click Games in the Arcade Admin Panel, I get this error:
Table 'eric_smf1.smf_games_category' doesn't exist
File: /home/eric/public_html/Sources/ArcadeAdmin.php
Line: 191

Games Installer, this error:
Table 'eric_smf1.smf_games_category' doesn't exist
File: /home/eric/public_html/Sources/ArcadeAdmin.php
Line: 299

When I go to arcade settings, it gets all weird when I enter the path to the games folder and it goes to this location in my browser and then says done.
http://www.westernslopeanglers.com/index.php?action=arcadeadmin;sa=settings;sub=save

Click Categories and this error
Table 'eric_smf1.smf_games_category' doesn't exist
File: /home/eric/public_html/Sources/ArcadeAdmin.php
Line: 135

I did find the games though.

If the table doesn't exsist you need to look at your database. Find the code that inserts the table. If you have phpMyAdmin you can insert the code in the sql box and run the query. I'll be back later to check on this to see if I can help more. I have to run out the door now.

arcade_sql.php is the one that you usually need to run at least twice and then again for luck.

My post has been posted but it won't redirect me to where I need to go.

That's wierd...

Hoped you backed up everything.

The arcade mod is one of those mod's you should always install manually, because it seems to goof every single time. Don't get me wrong, I love teh mod.

Did you also deleted your arcade tables from your database? You should double check and make sure they are gone.

I am checking my databases and I only have one.  Even when the arcade was installed, there wasn't a new one created.

I had that problem at one time too. I can't remember what I did to fix it. I know there are login problem siwth 1.1 so far. But I think this is related to something else.

I'm not sure if it was arcade related, I think it wa something else. Let me try and install on my test site real quick and see if I have any problems.

It could be the software, could be this sites server, could be your internet connection.

Sometime sthat comes from low bandwidth/slow speeds/packet loss.

Did you click "uninstall"?

Then you select "delete". If you have the lastest version of teh package, then don't delete it.

Yes, I clicked uninstall and it said successful but the delete button didn't show up after that.

Now I can't get into my admin panel at all.

BTW, I installed the package, then made teh modifications suggested in that thread to make it work with RC1, ran the sql file (htpp://yoururl/arcade_sql.php).

Installed pacman, enabled aracde, and played a few games. Works fine for me...

I'm trying to figure out why you have a forum folder.

No, it was a new install.  I originally had Mambo but eliminated that in favor of TP.

Look at your URL, it' stoo long. You shouldn't have a sessionID with it. I had a similair problem and let SMF guru know about it. I had a long URL like that, but with www, on the end. It was saying I had a DB error or server problems , but I didn't.

All I had to do was remove the extra part of the url.

Try that...

Ok, I managed to weasel my way into the admin panel and checked my error logs.  I can't get past the first page though because it asks for my password again and times out.

I have 1015 pages of errors right now.

you need to manually uninstall the arcade mod, i got so sick of all the errors that i had to get rid of it, regardless of how much my members enjoyed it. try emptying the errors database and see if that speeds things up.

Ok, I went back to this thread and backtracked what I did.

http://smfarcade.arcade.web.com/index.php?topic=1606.0

I changed the subs.php file and the managepermissions.php file.

Still running into the same problems.

I gotcha.  I did it in the package manager but I am not sure what else there is on the FTP that needs to be removed.

I uninstalled and deleted it.  along with all my other mods. :D

My forum still won't come back correctly though.

I haven't had any problems, or errors since installing in a few hours ago.

It does work with RC1...

Whne Mooncat says, manually remove teh code, that mean remove teh line sof code from each file. However, this isn't the best way to go. Sometimes code is replaced.

You'll need to take a look at "Arcade2.xml" file and you'll see what I mean. carefully read it and you'll understand what we mean.

Didi you back up your DB and files?

xarcell you will soon notice that your error log gets about 200 errors per refresh or page move, so you'll end up with a 50mb smf database like i had. i deleted the errors then had a 2 mb database

8: Undefined index: members
File: \Themes\default\TPortalBlocks.template.php (game_list sub template - eval?)

other than that arcade run great on RC1 ::)

Not saying anything bad of the arcade mod, but there are quite a few things I would have done differently....for example I never saw the purpose of 40+ quieries when fetching the games, ideally it should be just 2-3 calls at the most.

But it may have been corrected now, haven't looked at it for some time.

Well, everything is all good again.  I just reuploaded a new subs and managepermissions file to the server.

fixed it right away.

man, talk about scared.  Thanks for all your help though guys.  Got me going on the right track and learned a valuable lesson.

BACK UP YOUR STINKING FORUM BEFORE YOU SCREW EVERYTHING UP!!!!!

I need to find a test forum.  How do you go about doing that?
Title: Re: Need Arcade Help
Post by: bloc on November 03, 2005, 04:02:36 PM
You can just install it on the same server..make a new database for it and upload the forum into a test-folder.
Title: Re: Need Arcade Help
Post by: Xarcell on November 03, 2005, 10:54:38 PM
Yea, I have about 10 friggen test sites and I try and learn a bit.

Just make anothe folder for example "test". Inside teh test folder FTP all the smf files that folder. Go to www.westernslopeanglers.com/test/ and set up your test site.

It's very important that you use a different databse than the one you use for westernslopeanglers.com. This way, if you break something, it won't effect your westernslopeanglers.com site. Only your westernslopeanglers.com/test/ site.

Be extra careful not to FTP your files to the wrong directory when messing around. Don't FTP your experimental test forum files into your actual site files like I have over a dozen times.

I've even bought more domains that I "may" use in the future. For now I use them as test sites....

BTW, you should always back-up your DB files along with yiur site files for a complete backup.
