I have installed it several times before but I wanted to ask a couple questions given the fact that this site I am installing it on very live and SMF is at 1.1.1
(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dklassen.rcthost.com%2Fpics%2Fpackages.jpg&hash=f2d99fcaae914451e09d15e5405a5ce60f4ca96e)
You can see that the install is still pertty clean but the site as been upgraded to 1.1.1.
Should I remove the security patch and then install TP, then reapply the patch?
What's really the best way for me to tackle this with the least chance of hosing the site?
Thanks!!
TP hasn't been released to work with 1.1.1 yet. Although there has been a thousand posts for the work around so that it will work. It's simply to make the package able to install on 1.1.1.
The security patch won't have any affect on how TinyPortal installs, but the ad mod and google vid mod may. I'm not sure. It will tell if you something fails during the test install phase of the package install though. If you want to install TP on SMF 1.1.1 then you'll need to do this.
Open package-info.xml in the TP_097.zip and look for this:
<install for="1.1 RC3, 1.1">
<require-dir name="Themes" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="Sources" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="tp-downloads" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="tp-images" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="FCKeditor" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="wysiwyg" destination="$boarddir" />
<readme type="inline">Install:TinyPortal0.9.7 for SMF1.1RC3/SMF1.1 Final</readme>
<code>tp_install.php</code>
<modification format="boardmod" type="file">tinyportal09x-11rc3.mod</modification>
</install>
<uninstall for="1.1 RC3, 1.1">
Change to this:
<install for="1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">
<require-dir name="Themes" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="Sources" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="tp-downloads" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="tp-images" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="FCKeditor" destination="$boarddir" />
<require-dir name="wysiwyg" destination="$boarddir" />
<readme type="inline">Install:TinyPortal0.9.7 for SMF1.1RC3/SMF1.1/1.1.1</readme>
<code>tp_install.php</code>
<modification format="boardmod" type="file">tinyportal09x-11rc3.mod</modification>
</install>
<uninstall for="1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">
I tried the mod to the xml file (pretty easy) and the install goes without error. When I try to go back into the forums / home page, I get a blank white page.
One o more files that didnt apply during the install.
What you can do is download the manuall package and extract the files and upload and overwrite the old ones (make sure the actually DO overwrite the old ones)
Then download the zip file with the premade files and do the same with that package, when you are done with those 2 steps, point your browser to the file manual_tp_install.php and then refresh your forum
If you follow the instructions in her 3rd paragraph you will lose any modifications you've made and/or the mods have made to your template/Source files that have been modified. If you don't know what you're doing you may not want to do that.
any ETA on when TP for 1.1.1 will go live?
Let me ask you this. Can you write me a script that will have all these features in your free time and give me an expected date of when its going to be finished?
Well, I'm close. What I did was create a mirror copy of my live site on the same server but called the directory smftest. The I created a new database also smftest and restored a copy of my live database to it. The thought being is a mirror image I can test the TP install on. Everything is fine but now when I do the TP install through the package manager it is still trying to install it in the /smf directory not the smftest directory that I made. I cleared cookies and everything I can think of. Where am I going wrong?
I leaned my lesson on that question <haha> It will be done when it's done. They are doing great work here, just need to give them time.
you will probably need to run repair_settings.php which you can get from smf
I have TP 0.97 and SMF 1.1.1 running smoothly for some weeks now.
all i had to do was read carefully (and understand) what changes were made to the new security realease from 1.1 to 1.1.1 and none affect the way TP works...
so to my understand the package wont install only because the install script doesn't recognize the SMF version...
that is, the automatic (blindly search for a version and didn't find the correct one in the install script)
so, all you need to do is to manually Open package-info.xml in the TP_097.zip as Ichbin correctly says, and look for any instance where you see its for version 1.1 and manually insert 1.1.1 version too, or if you want change all 1.1 to 1.1.1 and save it again...
from that point upload the script as a package as you normally do, and intall it
this of course works if you have a CLEAN SMF installation, with no modifications (mods) to the original SMF files, if you have (like i do...) you need to know exactly what the mods did changed and correct the files, before installing the TP script.
after that it works just fine...
i just installed it using tip number 1 :D
and..it works perfectly on 1.1.1
saludos :D
1 post, and a working TP , SOMEONE REALLY DO!! read what we write in here :D THANK YOU!! :-*
yupeeeee yes... i'm new to this... just installed smf yesterday....now i know how it works..and saw a post on smf boards about a smf homepage and...came here ...and i must say TP is far better than i would have expected ...the best gadget since the (https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Forbita.starmedia.com%2F%7Eghomero%2Fimagenes%2Fhomer75.gif&hash=019b5102f5be0fc41a1deafd44b8e4edc6852be2)
thanks :D
saludos :D
:up: Thank you :)
I just ran the package install twice and each time it completes successfully but then when I go into the site I get nothing but a blank white page. I don't get it.
1. upload the files from the manual install package
2. upload the files from the premade zip file
3. Point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php
ALL files needs to be extracted before you upload them, the files from the ZIP file will aks you to OVERWRITE the old ones.
And dont forget to point the browser to the manuall install db file as it upgrade the db
ok, just did the manual install just like you said. All went fine. TP came right up. Except.... no forums. Just a black page within TP.
can u give us a link or a screen shot
lowandslow...do you have link for us?
I keep a hot backup sub dir on the server so if the site gets hosed I can just do a rename and get everything back up as the site is live. The site is back up running again without TP. I just don't understand it.
I have http://www.actioncamnetwork.com and a test site at http://www.voiceofthevillages.com/smf all SMF 1.1.1 and TP 0.9.7
Not troubles at all with the installs or anything else. The live site that I'm trying to get TP into is at http://www.talkofthevillages.com/smf
I've made no less than five attempts at the install both through the package manager and the manual install and it just won't go.
this is what I followed, and it worked-
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=12105.msg100696#msg100696
That's the way I just did it, right off that thread. No workie for me.
I followed http://www.talkofthevillages.com/smf twice
The first time I saw a functiong TP site. The second time I saw a SMF site without TP.
It's up now. I had to literally take my test site and move it to the live site and run the repair script and change all my paths and point to the existing database. Then I had to reconfigure all my blocks and custom work that I had done. That did the trick. What a royal pain.
looking good...glad you got it squared away
BTW: Is AP Landing your site?
Thanks. Yes, AP Landing is mine too. I'd like to switch it over to TP and SMF but moving my links and gallery over would be completely manual so I've been putting of off.
Nice site!
Your sig, typical power pilot ;) A glider pilot myself I prefer high and fast.
Let me know when you start converting the site. :)
hehe. Thanks, I'll do it. I'm actually into helicopters (e-powered) for fun and of course for aerial photography use. Here's my business site http://www.pmaerialphoto.com
I also have http://www.pmeventphoto.com and of course http://www.crashmode.com which is my personal for fun site. Think I have enough sites to play with?
Talk of the Villages is our more serious site and is owned by a partnership called Community Forums, LLC. to which I am one of the owners.
Thanks for the links and I prefer to fly an aircraft that is not ready to come apart at the seams. ;D
One of my friends has about 13,000 hours in long line work mostly in vertols. That is scary stuff.
I started to split this thread for hijacking but I noticed it is your thread so I suppose a little chit chat won't hurt.
A little chat is never a bad thing. Yes, r/c choppers can be a bit... well... crazy. Sometimes they tend to explode in mid air. Just adds to the fun :2funny:
Generally they are pretty solid if you know how to build and maintain them properly.
I missed the reference to e-powered in your previuos post...
R/C aircraft are a gas. It is quite common for guys to bring out the R/C toys after we get done flying for the day and the traffic is done. Those things are so much fun to watch.
Yes, quite fun. I've been doing r/c for about 25 years.
