Title: index.template.php failure
Post by: aperseghin on December 27, 2006, 04:40:49 PM
OK I have looked in my index.template.php (manualy) for the snipts of code (since the packaged failed install) and i see that there are MANY differences.. im a little confused here.. the lines of code are similar but not exact...  WHY ???

I have not edited my these parts of my index.template. The code should be the same. but its not.. am i missing something.. does .97 ONLY work for 1.1.1 (im on 1.1 rc3)

What SMF version and what theme are you using ?

Always use the default theme and nothing else.
You can use the premade files from the sticky post in Installations board. Download the zip file there and extract and take the index.template.php file from that package and replace with your old.
Make a backup first of the old one just in case.

That package will only work on the default theme SMF 1.1 and 1.1.1 TP V.097

You cant install TP to any other theme then the SMF default as it is builded on a lot of files and make all changes in that theme.

The only thing i can recoment is that you use the premade files AFTER you have backuped your old files, and then add the modifications in again to the new files when you have the forum up and working with Tp there in the default theme.
All the rest have to come second hand (other themes modifications and mods and so on)

Always install on the Default SMF and when that works fine, install TP, then other things

But to answer your questions.
You can always replace the files with new ones as long as you leave the settings.php and settings.bak.php tp-downloads folder, and attachments folder.
That will bring you to a standard SMF forum install again. But you will loose all mods you have installed when you do

"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."

Thats the error ... ill continue plugging away.. any help would be appreciated...

You import your database it will change your article and blocks settings. But it should retain a working version yes.

I am a little confused reading this thread, aperseghin you have said that you are using both SMF 1.1 RC3 and SMF 1.1.1. Have you upgraded between the relevant posts?

TP 0.97 will install into SMF 1.1RC3 but will show the error "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF." if you attempt to install it in SMF 1.1.1 as that is not included in the version information. There are some suggestions about how to get round that but it will be the next version of TP, 0.98 that will be compatable with SMF 1.1.1.

Always work using the default theme when installing TP and always back up your database and all the site files. If you do both you can put everything back as it was if you have to.

If you have theme variations that are purely colour variations of the default theme, the index.template files would be the same without TP installed, just copy the default index.template file with TP installed into your other default based themes (I have something similar on my site).

All of the TP articles and settings are stored in the database, as are all of the SMF settings. If you back up the database you will back up all your content. This means that if you uninstall an older version of TP then install the newest version it will find your stored content and settings and display it.
