Post by: Crip on December 18, 2006, 02:05:22 PM
We just noticed this:

Quote
SMF 1.1.1 on December 17, 2006, 09:33:41 AM
A number of small bugs and a potential security issue have been discovered in SMF 1.1. We urge all forum administrators to upgrade to SMF 1.1.1 - simply visit the package manager to install the patch.

I just upgraded. There isn't something big, just very small fixes.

Also for those who are instaling TP for the first time please INSTALL TP 1st BEFORE you apply the security patch

Or else TP fails to install

So if I wanted to get the .97 that is meant for 1.1 instead of using the 1.1 work around with .96, I should do that first?

Install TP097 1st on 11, then apply the 111 patch.

Will do! Actually, doing right now ;-)

Only wish I would have noticed there was an upgrade. I uninstalled (although I lost nothing because I have yet to really play with TP) and am installing .9.7

Help is available.

Instalation of .9.7 went fine. But now it appears that SMF site is experiencing technical difficulties, and I can't seem to get to the packages.

EDIT: They are back up, Installed 1.1.1, everything went fine. Now to start learning how to use TP. So far my efforts have been confusing.

For those of you who did it wrong and installed 1.1.1 first you can edit package-info.xml in the tp097 package to support that version then all should be well.

Find

        <install for="1.1 RC3, 1.1">
Add         <install for="1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">

And keep doing it to all other parts that have 1.1 adding 1.1, 1.1.1

Hope this helps.

EDIT: attached a fixxed package-info.xml

For the people that upgraded to 1.1.1, did you uninstalled TP 0.9.7 first and then apply the 1.1.1. patch, then re-install TP?

Or did you just go to your admin panel and install the 1.1.1 patch from there?

Edit - never mind I went to the first page of this thread   :o

I think I messed up.  I must not be upgrading correctly.  I went to the simplemachines.org website and downloaded the "small" update, unpacked it, FTPed it and ran upgrade.php.  It said it worked fine, but now my TP theme is borked.  I'm running the default theme now.  TP .97.  What's the right way to fix it?
Title: Re: SMF 1.1.1

When you upgrade SMF all your mods are gone and needs to be reinstalled.
SMF replaces all the old files with new ones = all mod code in the files are gone.

So you have to install TP (suggestion here is that you START with installing TP as it's the biggest mod)
And then add the rest in.
The themes should come back automaticly as you get TP installed again

It really should not be a problem, just wondered if other saw that

I had the same problem   :o

Edit - it's probably cause these mods to not have 1.1.1 in the package.xml file   ::)

I saw Aku's response on SMF and did it myself.  I got my [ Uninstall ] links back.     As far as I could tell all my mods worked before I did this and nothing in my error log with at least 10 people posting while I was doing this fix.

All you do is:

1.  Identify the mods in your package manager that have the [ Uninstall ] links
2.  Using FTP go to your 'Packages' folder under /forum/Packages
3.  Drag and drop the mod(s) that have the missing [ Uninstall ] to your desktop
4.  Using WinZip, open mod package
5.  Find 'package.xml' and right click it, then choose edit
6.  Find the areas where it references '1.1' in the install section and add a comma, e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1
7.  Do the same thing for the uninstall section as in this example:

<!-- Installation, the key part of this file. -->
<install for="1.1 RC1, 1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">
<modification>modification.xml</modification>
<code>autosig_settings.php</code>
</install>

<!-- Don't forget something to make it uninstallable! -->
<uninstall for="1.1 RC1, 1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">

8.  Close the notepad that you modified
9.  When asked to save changes, hit yes or OK
10.  When ask if you want to save the temporary file that was created, hit yes or OK.
11.  At this point the Zip file should be closed, just drag that new copy to the same 'Packages' directory and replace existing file
12.  Check it by going to your Admin Control Panel, then Packages link, then you should see the [ Uninstall ] links back.

See before and after shot.  Don't forget to back up your existing mod packages that you downloaded    :)

ok, I'm confused!!  Not new I'll admit!

AS I read through this my firts thought was just upgrade SMF to 1.1.1 and all will be well, but as I read further I see posts about mods not working etc.  I don't run many mods at this stage, removed a lot prior to rebuilding forum.  Will 1.1.1 just upgrade my site and leave TP as is or will I need to reinstall TP .97 again after the upgrade to 1.1.1

I know this should be obvious but it was a long night!!

Cheers

Install TP097 1st on 11, then apply the 111 patch.

TP needs updated to install with 1.1.1 for those who can only download 1.1.1 from the smf site.

Make a backup of your TP_097.ZIP file first!

Extract the XML file in the attached zip file.  Add the extracted XML file to your TP_097.ZIP file (overwriting the one already in there).

Now try installing via package manager again.  You should be able to install/upgrade TP on SMF 1.1.1 directly.

ummm.. i Can't update yet... :( Why because one of my main mods isn't updated yet..

This is one problem with having major mods on your site .. your at the whim and timing of the Author to update it (if they ever do..) or you loose featurs and content from your site :( ..

:( This is killing me.. as i know and i want to update but can't

So Unless your sites REALLY need a mod Don't become relient on it.. as it may take the Author ages to get the updates out if ever.. Then your left with a tough choice .. to update and drop a major feature.. or not to update and stick with what you have untiul your old feature gets updated..

you still  in  1.1 rc3    try    overwrite  your  sources  and  themes
files  with  new  ones ((1.1 rc3))   and   upgrade  to  1.1 or 1.1.1 !

ah.. np then.. hehe.  Hopefully they will get it now.  Just an FYI for everyone:

For very small patches you can usually use that method, but occasionally there are differences that might require an actual change to a particular mod - especially when the patch does something that directly affects the same file a mod is in.

Looks like you don't have the TPortal.php file at all.  Did you look in the directory to see if the file was actually there?
/home/shandy/public_html/forum/Sources/TPortal.php

Correct for some reason it isn't there, even when the package manager succeeded  in uploading and applying the mod :S

I have looked through all messages in the thread above and followed the steps however I still get the message about the package being corrupted etc.
Basically I downloaded the XML replacement file supplied which had all the changes to include 1.1.1., replaced that file in the original 0.97 zip package file, reset my forum to the default non-TP-theme, removed all existing TP themes, then tried to apply the TP 0.97 package which had the replacement XML file, however I am still getting the package corrupt error message when I try to install it via package manager.

Extrack the TP folder, make the changes to the .XML file, zip every thing up again.
Then trough FTP or Cpanel, go in and rempve the TP V.097 package from your packages folder and then make the install through the manager again.

Shucks that hasnt work/doesnt work, I have done as above, but the package manager still reports "An Error Has Occurred!
The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted.  "

Then i think you might want to check the permissions to your files.
You said you followed the steps coorectly, so whats left is the permissions to the files.
Check that you have the correct permissions to the packages folder (777 or 755) and the file in them to

Is this for me? - out of interest I did check the packages folder, it was 750, I have changed it to 755, but still get same error. Then I tried 777 but this has made no difference. The upgrade to 1.1.1. from 1.1.RC3 went fine with no errors, the other option would be to reinstall the full 1.1.1. package over the top. If you think that is too drastic I could give you admin rights to the forum.

@Ryatzu - you either have a permission error or an incorrect path to your forum.

@ccwking - my suggestion would be to delete all the zip files from your /Packages directory, upload the SMF 1.1.1 raw files overwriting your existing files (except for the Settings.php file), install TP 097 as though it were never there in the first place, reinstall your other mods

Ok, so far I have removed all files inside the Packages folder except Temp and Backup (both subdirectories are empty)
I have also copied all files from the full 1.1.1. install except settings etc across to the server. Forum is still running fine on 1.1.1. I am still getting the same error on the package upload function.

Then the only thing left for you to do is going for the manuall install.
Download the manual install package, upload all the files from the package and then download the premade files zip file, from the installations board and upload them to, then point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php and refresh your forum

Just so I dont get this wrong, download the manual 1.1.1 install of SMF, upload all files in the package, download the TP 0.97 with the modified TP XML file, then run the manual_tp_install?

No, your SMF install should be ok now, just the manual install of TP with modified XML.

But, before you do that, if you want, I can take a quick peek at your site - PM me a temporary admin id/password if you want me to take a quick look.

One of the reasons why I like SMF and TP is that it "just worked" for those of us who do not do code etc..

Spent two hours on trying to make this work.. tried to do the suggestions...

my work here is over..

I just reread that and it came across rude to me...

What I meant is that i can not do anything more until there is a fix..

np StanJ - TP 0.9.8 is in the works.  Of course, there are no scheduled release dates for any versions, but I'm sure Bloc will release it as soon as it is ready and has been well tested.

We just noticed this:

A number of small bugs and a potential security issue have been discovered in SMF 1.1. We urge all forum administrators to upgrade to SMF 1.1.1 - simply visit the package manager to install the patch.

crip~

Are they trying to fix's the issue's and the bug's for the SMF 1.1 Final Version?

One of my Admin's upgrade the forum to the 1.1.1 from the Final Version.  It's went great with the upgrade. But i install TP 97 into my forum before they upgrade the forum for me...

Gotto ask you something.  After the they install that patch i can't unstall TP 97 or the new Arcade mod too.  If i wanna to unstall them i have to unstall the patch first?

Are TP is coming out with the New Version of Tp for us?  I guess Tp98 is the new version?

Replace the package-info.xml file contained within the TP_097.zip file which is in your Packages directory on your site with the one inside the zip file found here (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=11500.0;attach=7756).

After doing so, you will have the Uninstall link inside the packages list of the ACP for TP.  It will allow you to uninstall TP via the normal package manager automation should you need to.
