First of all... I apologize in advance for asking some questions that, I'm sure, are pretty ridiculous, and easily answered on my own... if only I knew where to look.
But... having searched around the site here all morning, reading the How-to's, the FAQ, etc and not found what I'm looking for, I'll bite the bullet and ask.
Newb Question #1 - what the heck is the Menu Manager for? I played around with it and created a menu in it... but what is it used for? Where does the created menu appear? What do I do with it?
Newb Question #2 - how the heck do I set things up to allow user-submitted articles, like it is here, in the Tool block? I'm sure this is simple, but I can't figure it out. I'm wanting to allow users to submit their own reviews. I see in member permissions where I can set permission to manage articles, but that seems to not be what I want... that allows them access to categories, etc. submit an article.
I have other things I haven't figured out yet, but maybe if I get these two things figured out I'll be able to work out the rest for myself.
Thanks. :)
Hi,
#1 You have to make it visible through the block manager.
#2 Change their permissions. Manage Articles-> Submissions.
Re: #1, ok, I see now there is a Menubox block. Thanks.
Re: #2, as mentioned, I saw the permission settings, but they aren't accomplishing what I want. I've set persmissions to all users except guests... but I can't see anywhere that it shows a Submit Article link/option/etc for members.
I just want to be able to set a link to allow them to submit an article of their own, like in the "Tools" block at this site.
It's there, but the Admn don't see it.. :) members see it but not the Admin..this is true.
Where will it show?
I've logged in as a testuser, but still can't see the link anywhere.
Maybe I've got the Article block set up wrong.
The block I'm trying to use is :
Type: Article Category -> Review (that's the only category I've created).
The block shows a link to the article (a test article I created), but there is no Submit Article link, even for a regular member.
You gotta set permissions for members, guest, membergroups, et-ceteras.. toggle them all checked you'll see the submit link, if you have enabled it in TPadmin
I've gone into Admin -> Article Manager -> Submissions
My member-group options for permission are:
Guest
Ungrouped members
Global Mod
Mod
All
The only membergroups I use are the standard "Regular member", and postcount-based groups.... so everyone who is not an admin or global mod is a egular member... right? I assume that puts them into the "Ungrouped member" category.
I've selected each and every member group under the Submission permissions, including Guests (which I don't want enabled), but the Article block I'm using still doesn't show a submit article link.
Do I have to create that link myself somehow?
I'm thinking I need to setup another block to contain the Submit Article link?
What type of block is the Tools block here at this site?
The "Submit article" link is in the admin toolbox. Create a new block of the type "admin toolbox" and set it so that those who have permission to submit articles will see it.
Excellent. That's the bit I was missing.
Thanks everyone.
If I could ask one more related question...
Is there a way to change the sorting behaviour of the articles in my Article Block... so that the newest article is on top? (the behaviour now is that new articles are listed at the bottom)
I was gonna show and tell but JP beat me..
I just did what she explained so eloquently!
Yeah, thanks... my problem was I didn't realize that the submission link was in the Admin Tools block.
Now If I could have my articles sort such that the newest articles show up in my Articles Block at the top of the list, instead of the bottom, I'd be set. :)
You just need to get to know what you have now..toys ya know?
lol
Is that another way of saying "You'll have to figure that one out for yourself" ?
:p
You need to enable the admin block. This will have links for submitting articles and uploading files if permissions are set.
Thank you... I've already gotten that part figured out. I'm now wondering if it's possible to have the article listing sorted in reverse order?
Right now, in my Articles Block, the new articles are listed at the bottom of the list. I'd like to know if it's possible to ahve the newest articles listed at the top of the list, as articles are added.
EDIT: I'm referring just to the Article Category BLock... if I actually display all articles in a category, they list newest-to-oldest. But in the Category Block, they list Oldest-to-Newest.
