Hi. I downloaded the UTF-8 italian translation files by khandra but they're "bugged" because they're NOT in UTF-8. :2funny:
I've fixed them and now they work perfectly. They're attached here. :coolsmiley: ;)
lorenzone92 I downloaded the file you attached. The files contained are not in utf-8 neither have the -utf8 name extension.
khandra has uploaded the standard italian files, they work well, I did the conversion to UTF-8 and sure they are.
There might be a confusion about UTF-8 as there is no "official" Italian translation for SMF since v1.02. As far as I know Italian translation files can be found in http://www.smitaly.net/ and they don't have UTF-8 translation files.
lorenzone92 I checked again and found a mistake.
The Italian language UTF-8 files are surely UTF-8. However, the special chars are Greek. This was my mistake, I did the conversion with Open Office Writer and didn' t read the standard files as ISO-8859-1. I usually do it with MS Word :(
I will correct it as soon as possible.

Yes, they have.
You can download the SMF italian files here:

Yes you're right they haven't the uft-8 name extension but I forget to add it. The files I've attached are in UTF-8!
I splitted the messages and moved here to free the TP 0.9.7 topic.
lorenzone92 your files are ANSI coded and use latin-1 entities (http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/html40/entities/latin1.html), i.e ù for ù.
They can be used with different codepages and display correctly. If renamed they will work with UTF-8.
However, they are not UTF-8 encoded. Entities take a lot of memory. UTF-8 takes more than ANSI but not so much.
A true UTF-8 language file will not display special chars correctly if used with an ISO codepage. Yours will do.
I have also seen other SMF language files for UTF-8 with entities. It is not wrong but it isn't UTF-8 and takes more space.
The files I uploaded are UTF-8 encoded but I have made a codepage mistake in reading so special chars will not display correctly. That is corrected.
New TinyPortal v0.9.7 Italian language files for UTF-8 are uploaded in http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item573
Thank you all for transforming my files in UTF-8. As Agridoc said they were in normal format, I did the translation just to see how italian looked like in TinyPortal.
Anyway, Lorenzone, if you used my translation to compose the final files, I hope you have checked my translation because I think that not all of my choices were straightforward ;)
I my files I changed some things of your translation, if you want I can rewrite the translation completely.
Both normal and UTF-8. ;)
I noticed some minor changes in text but I can' t argue on this, it' s all Italian ;)
Of course it is desirable to find the best text. I have also seen in http://www.smitaly.net/ TP translation in downloads but I get a 404, file not found error when trying to reach the directories.
