when i installed smf on that a while ago the package manager would not work, it would give me mod parse error. But everything else worked fine.

do they allow zip and rar files.. because that might be the problem.. some of these free servers dont allow packages.. and that gives a problem with the... package manager  :o

you get this when you try to login to your control panel.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Login CP temporarily unavailable.

110MB is being moved to multiple servers on Europe based provider. This is STAGE 2/5 of transfer.

The purpose of this is to FINALLY eliminate all (beyond-comprehension) annoying downtimes and have your sites running at maximum speed at all times of day.

Current Progress: Programming complex clustered servers code

Please come back in a few hours...
---------------------------------------------------------------
been like that for at least 1 day

I can understand annoying downtime and the irritation when a server goes down when you PAY for them.
But this seem to be a free hosting, and they even make announsment for their clients what they are doing, how long it's suppose to take, and you complain about it when they strive to only get better and better for YOU !

What is the world comming to  :2funny:

I agree

You get what you pay for :)

I have a dedicated server and i hardly use it haha.

I only have a few accounts on it and the CPU sits at 0% half the time.

Maybe I should sell of some space for SMF installs.
Title: Re: [FREE] 110mb.com - NO ads
Post by: superQ on December 31, 2006, 05:12:41 PM
I don't think anybody was really complaining ;).Certainly not me. :o Possibly the exact opposite. I am inclined to congratulate them on what they are trying to do, and hope all goes well.

When I said:

"been like that for at least 1 day"

I said that just to let people know that it was not just put up meaning it was taking longer than planned[like tp yesterday]and not to think it would be done in a few hrs as the page said. Nothing more and certainly not complaining :coolsmiley:

from the site regarding the downtime:

"Please come back in a few hours"

It was already more than a few hrs...

I believe I saw where these upgrades are their attempt to have no downtime at all or at least as little as possible-free service or paid...

from their site:

- 95% Uptime OPTIMIZING TO REACH 99.9%

akmal was only complaining that he could not upload his files completety and nobody here was really giving him/her a straight answer. I simply tried to direct him to where he/she should look for help. What he needed was help from 100mb not tp or smf imo.

For a while I was promoting www.zeeblo.com a free host that was the bomb---until it up an closed down with no warning .They seem to be back now--at least on their way back.  They were great and the uptime was fantastic I will use them again. nothing like 100mb space and bw. but just for testing it is/was good/great.

Time will tell

Test for free, but when it come to the real thing--needless to say--buy hosting..

Maybe even tphosting.

wmiles said:

"You get what you pay for"

If that was true people would not have to change hosts so often.

Paying for hosting does not insure anything. There are plenty of free host that are better than some paid hosts"...

It's ok SuperQ, no need to explain further or fel bad ;)
Title: Re: [FREE] 110mb.com - NO ads
Post by: wmiles on December 31, 2006, 05:18:06 PM
I think people tend to struggle with a service when they become too big for what they can actually cope with, nobody likes downtime but it does happen, the only thing i would say is that with correct planning and growth most of the time you should be able to avoid it.

Thats the way i work anyway, and like G6 said, no need to explain, we knew what u was saying but i have a tendancy to like to wind people up hehe

You both give up so easy :(

I was looking for a little action :2funny:

As far as hosting goes I think the grass is always greener applies. I am extremely happy with my paid host www.ewebzone.net  but can't help but look around for something better. I can't say the price is the lowest, but if you need reliability coupled with extraordinarily good support[like here at tp ;) which is important to superQ :uglystupid2:] they should be considered especially if you need more than their lowest priced package. Which is a little steep....

Sorry i know i'm kinda hijacking the thread, but this is aimed at superQ

What would you personally see is a good package, not gigs and gigs of space just enough to run a board and be happy with room for expansion?

And the price too...

Does your current host Stop 99% of SPAM at the source??

Are you thinking of dumping the server and maybe going with a reseller account or something?

Everybody's needs are different so i can't really comment on that aspect. You need what you need. I don't need anything really, so I stay with him because he has been outstanding to me.

I am not gay much[what!!-lol], but I love the guy :o. :-* I think he has a day job so he must have a freaking laptop surgically attached because his response time is practicaly immediate. I am sure it still is--haven't needed him in a while.Screwed up with tp 97.waiting for next smf to start over..

I am sure there are other hosts who may be as good, but I am just as sure thety are not better. I figure why take the chance finding out to maybe save a nickel/dime a day.

I'm tight,but not that tight
Ewebzone has spamassassin and the box trapper spam trap thingy[c-panel] included.

No not thinking of Dumping the server, rather helping people out with space on the server. either free or a minimal amount.

So what is your opinion on those? Thanks for replies

This is now officially getting off the topic of 110mb.com[which I have nothing to do with]

But:

Some things you may[will] want to look for---- whichever free host you choose.==> NO popups, NO spam, NO ads, No posting in forums required. Also they should host your own domain if you have/want one to be hosted. You should have one..

I am the first one to admit I don't understand how they do it for free with no ads and stuff, but they must be making money somehow. No ads in mandatory imo

Nice gesture wmiles. If you really want the headaches--For free I would  imagine 300mb[or less] of storage  and 2 gb bw is more than sufficient. You don't want to be hosting a lot of photo galleries either...If they want more let 'em pay something like $2 a month or so.

Do you really want to be getting into the hosting business with so many free ones around. I hear it can be a real headache.(https://www.tinyportal.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smileypad.com%2Fv224%2FAngry%2FBashHead.gif&hash=6b7ce4e0848dbac7e56862ad888202d30bd770ea) I would not do it.I don't think it is something you do on the spur of the moment, but it is a nice thought.

Maybe you could offer space to peole to get their tp site up and running and then let their paid host move it to their servers. I can see someone trying that--while they were looking for a good paid host like---- maybe---- oh let superQ think---tphosting when it becomes available

I was planing to  move my forum to 110mb, but I cant import my database from funpic into to "phpminiadmin" it gives ERRORS Error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '; CREATE TABLE `smf_ads` ( ADS_ID mediumint(8) unsigned NOT NULL auto_incr' at line 13 my sql file is locates here (http://jptforum.110mb.com/dump.sql)

can I aslo connect to my "good old" funpic database ( on oostcoast.oo.funpic.de) what adress should I use then?

what is the problem, an older version of SQL???

100mb hosting has a nice easy setup going on over there. I have an account with just smf installed. I would reccomend it to someone just starting out. It is not basic--just simple.  :coolsmiley:

Nah... No money coming my way >:( They also have that add on top.

This one is better, but I cannot run the install.php---not the smf install.php but maybe you can't run any. Haven't had time to check out why...Super may be the prob....

www.byethost.com

There is another thread about them. If they work with tp smf they look real good and have been around a while. No ads on free accounts  and cheap paid hosting.....

If you will reread my post you will see I didn't try to manually install smf on it. It was another cms. I also stated that I didn't really look into it too much.

"This one is better, but I cannot run the install.php---not the smf install.php but maybe you can't run any. Haven't had time to check out why...Super may be the prob....

The fact is that you can install smf on it.I just wanted to install the latest version of the other script[which was not available via automatic install]If you insall smf/tp you will probably have to install an older version and upgrade to 1.1.2,or maybe you can run the installer script. Try it...It is free...

from the website:

"Along with all this, we provide free FTP, PHP 5, My-SQL and our very popular feature :
The Automatic Script Installer (Like Fantastico) You can install many popular scripts such as PHPbb2 & PHPbb3, Wordpress, Zen-Cart, osCommerce, MyBB, UseBB, MyLittle Forum, 4images, Coppermine, SMF, Joomla, e107, XOOPS, PHP Wind, CuteNews, Mambo, WikiWig and many more! No need to wait a long time uploading files, Our Automatic Script Installer deploys your files in seconds!

Without spending too much time on it I believe you can host 5 addon domains and 5 subdomains. You also get 3 databases--clear advantage to me anyway.

How many are available on 100mb hosting??????

Like I said I haven't looked into it much but I just saw this..for the free plan

fopen wrappers / curl are disabled  + safe mode is on

http://yoursupportgroup.com/v4/kb_article.php?ref=5490-ADCN-0225

That is not too good i don't think.

"Our premium hosting plans have none of the free hosting limitations, please visit the Premium Hosting section on your hosts home page for more information on paid plans.

I can'r remember what the free premium hosting "charged you" but it might have been an ad placed on your site..
