Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere, but after 7 hours of searching on this forum, and many others, I am at my end. This particular issue was in fact brought up a couple times on this forum, but I never saw a definite answer.
Anyways, I installed tinyportal, it worked fine, I started changing settings, and I got to the shoutbox, and after changing a couple things in there, came up with the following error.
You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
File: /home/content/f/u/h/fuhkway/html/Sources/TPortal.php
Line: 578
I am using SMF 1.1 RC3 and TP0.9.6.
PLEASE...someone help me. I am about to pull out the remainder of my hair trying to figure this shit out.
Thanks.
Try changing out the TPortal.php in the source file with the one found on this thread, third post down by Bloc.
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=9563.120
See if that helps
does your server have the right versions of php/mysql installed?
That link takes me to page, but I don't see any posts by bloc on that page. And on the first page, the first post is his, but I don't know if that is the post you are refering to, and which of the three files he has up, I should download.
Also...atm, I replaced the files that TP installed on the server, so that my forum would work normally, without TP.
So what should I do now? Install it through the forum again? And THEN try changing the TPortal.php file that you want me to use or what?

Yes I would try that and see if it works for you.
Thanks, I'm trying it now. I will let you know how it goes in two minutes.

Alright I will wait
Nope. Didn't work. Got the same error. People are telling me to check my mysql manual and fix the syntax. But I'm just starting out in php, so I'm not too versed in what I need to do to acomplish that.
You had this working and then you changed some settings in the shoutbox, and then you got that error message? That is how is went yes?
I find that very strange that you had it working and now it does not. Can I have a link to your site, you can PM me with it if you like.
Yeah that's what happened.
I PM'ed you the link.

Got it I will come and try to help you.
We didn't figure the problem out on our first try. If anyone else has an opinion, please let me know :) Thanks.
Have you checked to be sure that the mysql and php versions your server are running are correct? And I assume you haven't changed any code manually already as you said you said you're not very proficient?
if you upload the attached file and then load it in a browser, it'll give you all the version info you need. PHP Version is at top, and do a search on "MySQL Version"
Ah sweet. Gimme a sec. Checking now.
Ok. The php version is v4.3.11.
And the mysql is 3.23.49. That's the Client API version. I am assuming that's what you need.
But what are the versions that I should have for this stuff to work? And if TP worked at first, then stopped working, wouldn't that mean that the versions are sufficient? Just throwing that out there, not sure if I'm even making sense :)
I understand what you're saying. ;) I'm checking on versions right now. I should have done that already, lol... gimme a few minutes.
hehe...np. I'm here. I really want to sort this crap out. :|
do you have a link to your forum?
Also: Yeah... that version of MySQL you have are nearly archaic, so I'm surprised SMF actually loaded onto your server correctly, let alone Tiny Portal.
Just for posterity sake if nothing else, I'd suggest talking to your host and seeing if they'll upgrade.
here's the versions I run with no issues:
PHP Version 4.4.4
MySQL Client API version 4.0.25
I PM'ed the URL to you.
And would it be a matter of upgrading the mysql for me alone? or would they have to upgrade it for all their clients?
they'd probably have to upgrade to all clients. Unless you're on a dedicated server.
Hence....they'll probably just be like...who the eff are you? why should we go through all that trouble cause ONE guy wants it?
Ok. I got it sorted out. Thanks a lot for everyone's efforts and help. I must say, in all my ventures through the interwebz, while looking for assisstance from forums, this forum is the MOST prompt, and helpful. Yall are truly a fine fine community. Thanks again guys! Cheers.
Deleting the tp tables in the mysql db wound up fixing the issue... unsure as to what caused it to begin with.
