Title: Request: Donation Block
Post by: bloodlust on October 16, 2005, 04:37:59 AM
Sorry if this isn't the place to post this....

Could someone write a php block for PayPal donations.  Something similar to the "Donat-o-Meter" for PHP-Nuke?

I've never seen the Donate-o-Meter. Could you give a link?
Bloc has already posted a little tut for a paypal button here if you want it.

Well...I was looking for something that would keep track of people who have donated, and show a goal for the month.

Donat-o-Meter does this, but it's a PHP-Nuke plugin, so I don't think it will work with TP.  Also, I am having problems finding the download for the Donat-o-Meter....but a buddy of mine is running it on his Nuke site....here's a link http://www.sinandwar.com

Tracking what people have donated may require some more work into it..for starters adding a table for it. But its not impossible.

I would try to write it myself, but I don't know php.  :'(  I really need to learn how to code.  I picked up a book on php/mysql, but I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I think I'll start on the book this week.  :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

In the mean time, if anyone wants to tackle this block, it would be a great addition for TP!

I'm sure I saw someone was writing a subscription mod on the SMF board?

Anyone want to give it a go?

It would be appreciated if someone could port this!

I would also like to see this ported over, I'd do it but I don't quite know php/mysql well enough.  If you want to see an example of it, you can Here (http://www.buffalobadass.com).  If you click the donate now button, you can see some more of it.  Like said, I'd love to see this in a package, just don't know how to change it. :(

I asked a friend of mine (since I'm a php noob) to write a stand alone php script that will do the same thing as the nuke plug-in.  Once he gets it set up, and working, I'll share it with everybody!

There's a donation mod for SMF that tracks donations. It also puts anyone who donates into a addional membergroup for recognition.

The subscri[tion mod Grudge is writing over at SMF is fantastic. It does everything the subcription mod for IPB does and then some. I have it on my site at http://www.ladiesofnuevolaredo.com (http://www.ladiesofnuevolaredo.com)  It puts a link into the members profile for "Paid Subscriptions". Unlimited number of Subscription options also!

I'm using Grudge's mod and it's very very good - completely automated subscriptions.

Don't see the point of re-inventing the wheel! Plus Bloc's got enough on his plate feeding us with other stuff.

thanks rasyr. don't know why that thread is still listed under feature requests instead of mod packages? :o  now just waiting on the new tp to hit the downloads so i can get back to work on my site.

I know where to find that Mod cause I am planning on using it as well. One of the forums that my boss wants to setup includes having a paid subscription deal.

Once we are ready, we may need to  see about having a custom script written to make it work with linkpoint... :)

installed paid subscription mod from smf on RC2 and TP .8 working like a charm.. but
this isnt really a donations mod but more a subscription mod...

does anybody know of a donations mod?

example: a mod where you click a button to open the donations page then fill in the amount to donate and click go, after that it will open a paypal page and after payment paypal returns you to a thankyou page on your site. The donations are then registerd in the database and a latest donations page can be created. also the last 5 donations could be put in a "bloc"...

I have seen and installed this on a e107 cms website... anybody know of a mod like this or interested in trying to port this mod to smf-tp?

yes... there is a smf 1.0 mod made by FaSan... but:

14. Execute Modification ./Sources/ModSettings.php Test failed
17. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/index.template.php Test failed

I think FaSan does his mods thru his own site now. Have a look at http://www.smitalia.net You do need to register to download, and the site is in Italian (not sure if the language can be changed).

I dont know if this is of any use.

But it seems like it can be used in a PHP block from TPAdmin and create a php box. ??

I really dont know any of this, but the tutorial on the page I link to make it seem pretty easy somehow.  :o?

It can be done. I installed teh donations mod by Fasanm which you have to DL from his site. When a person donates, it can also put them in a special membergroup you specify like "donor" and keeps a list of who has donated what. I imagine putting that information into would be easy, but haven't tried it.

I did some searching, there doesn't seem to be any 1.1x support.

i made a paypal template for my forum, adding a custom action, and a paypal source file, and the template file for the them...then have the action=paypal.

you need a merchant account through paypal to make the form, you will also need to login to paypal.

i don't have a sample..as my forum is a close forum, but i will add to my test site if anyone interested. it so simple..and just add the paypal button, which takes you to paypal, but i guess an iframe for the paypal form may work too..

You may want to check out PayPal Doantion Meter

They offer a donation meter script thats easy to integrate into just about any site

They also have a hosted version of the script that does not require any php coding modification or installing of database tables etc just a simple bit of html code to place on your site to display a graphic showing a monthly goal, a list of donations made etc etc

Chekc it out

I have seen that one, it is good, however, Resourcez script does all that stuff plus one thing better.. it integrates with your SMF database.

It is awesome.  I have been using it for two years or so and have never had a problem with it.

Sounds good, in what way does it integrate with the SMF database?
Title: Re: Request: Donation Block
Post by: Rocket on May 10, 2008, 11:24:39 PM
1)  It is fully configurable through the admin area.
2)  It recognizes the users who are registered with your forum and tracks their donations which can be seen in the admin area as well as in the profile area.
3)  Comes with a block for TP which is also configurable in the Admin area.

Link to http://www.PayPalDonationMeter.com is dead?  :(

Anyone know if it is possible to show info from the "treasury" smf mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=916)?
It has a nice counter feature in a separate link (/index.php?action=treasury) but I would really like to have that info in a block.

So, there is no donation block?  Maybe Bloc can create one for TP?  Please!
Title: Re: Request: Donation Block

The donation block is simply a scriptblock.
When you get your code from paypal, you simply paste that code into a scritblock and you have your donation block with a clickable image that lead you directly to paypal through your account.

Good morning Carrina!  I hope you are feeling well today. ;)
Thanks for the info.  I will use this on my Christian Treasures Forum and all donations will go to the church and the upkeep of the site.

Have a bless day.

Yes Marian, great you got it to work, just hope you will get some donations made to. Not the most common thing to use on any site as far as i know, but atleast it's there for the one member that wants to help out a bit.

And to day is not a good day, and tomorrow will be even worse if the kemo works the same way as the other times  :-\
