After reading the docs and searching the forum, I cannot resolve this:
From the Docs.
Quote- use intro is a feature where you can specify a shorter text to be used in the category listing.
- show on frontpage will make the article appear on the frontpage of TP. If you set the option of "use intro" the introtext content will be used instead.

I have tried endless combinations to use the "Use Intro" feature with articles.

I've placed them in a "One Article Block" as well as tried using the Block as an "Article Block"

In every case, when I click on the radio button to "Use Intro" = Yes and then save, it reverts back to "No"

I have tried every combination of options within the block settings as well as the Article settings, including simplifying the intro text.

Can anyone advise me something else to try?

On a less important note is there a built-in feature to add a "More >>"  Link at the end of the Intro Text or must I finish posting the article, determine it's URL, and then go back and add the link?

What kind of article are you trying to create? The more link is only for board news and intro text if I remember right.

The articles are HTML - I even tried switching to BBC and PHP but the formatting and markup was lost with each change (as would be expected).

It should be noted, as was discussed in an earlier post, that the Intro feature is only an option with the HTML version.

In looking at the edit page (index.php?action=tpadmin;sa=editarticle6), it shows the "No" option for Use Intro was  "checked".
As confirmed in the source code

I thought there may have been either a "SELECT" issue in generating the form or an "UPDATE" problem in submitting to the database.

"UPDATE" is working working I discovered, as I determined by the following check:

I went into the MySQL Database and found the table named "smf_tp_articles" and a field named "useintro" which showed the value "0" in all of the Articles I've submitted.
Note: The Db default for that field is "1".

I changed one of the Articles' setting in that field to "1" thru MySQL Admin, and then refreshed the form page and it showed the radio button for "Yes" (value=1).

I backed out of that and viewed the Home Page which DID in fact show the intro (and interestling, the "Read More" link was auto generated.

Also, although the full article page shows and reads properly, but the ONSCREEN Intro version   on the home page. has had the HTML Markup converted %20 | $ | &lt; | &gt; | AND |  | <p><img height="100" alt="" width="84" align="middle" border="0" src="http://womenmotorcyclist.com/forum/tp-images/Image/user_1_brenda-1.jpg" />   etc.
Samples - Pasted from screen

Then, I went back and made some changes as well as inserting an image in that article. AND noted that the Use Intro was marked "Yes". in the form page

I saved and saw that the radio button on Use Intro was now marked "No". (the new changes and image was there). But the Radio Button showed "No". And of course The Full version had replaced the Intro.

I am using the FCKeditor as it seems to work better and has more options on hyperlinks...

If this has revealed a bug, I hope my description above was helpful in narrowing down your attempts to debug.

If there is something I've missed in setting this up, I'm all ears!

I have an update on this...

I discovered that if I add an article and check on the "Use Intro" button, the Intro does show up in the article view/preview page only, However, if I then edit the article (even just once), the radio button behavior described above kicks in.

I would like all articles displayed on the Front Page to be Intros Only, but if I submit the articles and then edit them, I loose the "Use Intro" option.

Is this a bug? or can anyone put me in the right direction.

Doesn't look like it.. If you think it's a bug, submit it to the Bugtracker at the top of the site and somebody will look into it when they have time.

bas123

This has been submitted as a Bug...

However, it hasn't been assigned.

I hope some resolution comes soon, as I am otherwise close to launching and promoting the site it involves.

It is unfortunately dependent on being able to present Intros on the frontpage.  :(

Well you should probably use another portal software then. This is beta software. And fixes aren't supplied to all the bugs. There will be an update when Bloc is able to spend more time fixing things. Unfortunately that could be a month or 2 away.

i have the same problem, is there a answer for the intro problem?
