Whats AOL doing on my PC?
Title: Re: COMPUTER HELP?
Post by: IchBin on December 15, 2006, 02:13:57 PM
Crip, reboot your computer into Safe Mode and see if this still happens.
When you reboot your machine press and hold F8 when its starting up. A screen should display asking you about custom boot options. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. Once its booted up if the CD drive is still going crazy I would probably say that it has something to do with your hardware. Try a new cable first. If the cable is not the problem then either the CD drive is bad, or the controller on the motherboard is going crazy. My $.02

If the CD drive stops and doesn't have any problems then I would have to say its software related. Could be a virus, or even the driver or firmware.

well I think itmay be better for you to try  a software fix before  opening up the computer.

here ids the trijan that may be your problem

Beastdoor trojan

google it and see what you come up with

anti virus may not catch the trojan

do you have a squared

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

it is slow as hell to scan but once installed if you can find where the triojan installs itself you can just scan that file or files.

I will look arounfd to see wtf

you may want to go to wilders security forum

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=38

it is popular place to get help.

if you go there do like they say with regard to running hijackthis and stuff. it is important. They are pretty quick and very thorough

use in conjunction with the other place mentioned

if you download the a squared get the trial version not the free one it will run out in 30 days then switch. obviously the trial version of the paid one is better

So let me get this straight, it wasn't going crazy when you were in Safemode? If so, its more than likely the software issue. One thing I would do is run a different virus scan. You can possibly have a trojan/virus that your current anti-virus software is not detecting. Its best to run a virus scan in safe mode. And yes it looks just as you described Crip. Return your computer to safe mode with networking again. Then goto this link and run their free online virus scan.

What I did:
Recently (about the time this all started) I had installed 'Windows Live Messenger' BETA..
OK..I took my computer out of safemode, rebooted normally, and un-installed 'Windows Live Messenger' BETA!

Since doing this and rebooting again, it has completely stopped doing what it was doing..like I said, I have Norton AV run a full system scan 3 nights a week, so I really don't 'think' I have anykind of a virus or worm or nothing like that.

However,
after I have un-installed ('Windows Live Messenger' BETA) it hasn't Ejected/Injected once..It may later on, but as of 30 minutes now it has stopped completely..so will see how long it goes without doing it again before I do anything drastic...Lol..

Thanks for all replies and comments.

If all else fails you can use your xp disk and do a repair - it will save all your setting but you will have to reinstall all your updates. And I mean do the repair not the reinstall not the console repair

Description:
skeys.exe is a process which belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System and provides the Serial Keys Utility. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

Recommendation for skeys.exe:
skeys.exe should not be disabled, required for essential applications to work properly. It is highly recommended to Run a Performance Scan to automatically optimize memory, CPU and Internet settings.

*sometimes these are vulnerable to spyware, etc.
