Tinyportal Feature Requests

Tinyportal Feature Requests

The Tinyportal team would like to ask you the users what additional features, or tweaks they'd like to see added to Tinyportal.  It would be really nice to hear from you exactly what you think is missing from this portal system, and come up with some ideas and suggestions for us to consider for future versions.

There's no promises, your suggestion might not even get accepted, but what we will do is take a good look at your suggestions. So if there's something new, or something you think needs improvement, let us know.

We are working on a new version right now which is being tested, and hopefully released very soon, but while we were doing this a number of discussions came up regarding things like, optional layouts for the shoutbox, the ability to use the shoutbox as a chat room stuff like that.  So that got us thinking, maybe we should ask what you'd like.

Anything suggested will be considered and if we like the idea it'll be added to a summery in this very post.

Don't hold back now, just drop your ideas below.
Mick aka lurkalot.

Think I might kick this off with,

I'd like to have a method for easily uploading images, so they can be found and used in blocks and articles. Taking this one step further, if once the image was uploaded it gave a embed link it would be fantastic.

Shoutbox improvements:

Item 1: 'Horizontal layout'
What I am missing is a more horizontally oriented layout (like the one from SMFpacks) that I can use in an upper panel.

What I would like is this:
Line 1: User name (clickable to profile) [Date and time of shout] : Shout text
Line 2 etc: Shout texts additional line(s) if available
---- separator line ----

The the Text area for entry should also be minimalized to maximum 2 lines high (better even one)

Item 2: 'Shoutbox layout selection per block'
While I was testing I noticed that the selection of the layout is 'at the module level'. This means you can only use one layout in a forum.

What would be nice is if that was possible to select the layout of the Shoutbox 'per block'.
That way it would be possible to display the shoutbox in one layout in article pages and another layout in the forum...
This means having ONE shoutbox, but the option to display this shoutbox in different layouts to different groups.

I was thinking that If I can offer a vertical layout in some areas of the forum and a horizontal one elsewhere I may get more users actually using it.

When assigning blocks to display on certain pages it is possible to select individal boards, or 'ALL boards'.
The all boards option is very usefull.

When I want to assign blocks to be shown on articles or categories I can select each article or category, but I cannot select ALL. This is a bit cumbersome, because every time I create a new article or category I have to remember to activate all blocks for the new page. This would be greatly improved if an 'All articles' option and an 'All categories' option would be added.

Now the visible refresh has gone from the shoutbox, some sort of visual, and if possible a audio notification sound could be useful.

When creating or editing a block, it would be handy if it told you (as a reminder) what panel the block is residing in, at the moment it just says,  TP Admin » Blocks » Edit Block

Block Style Options. The ability to add block title styles, by either hex colours or custom images.  Per  block.

First option I have a draft template set up and will be in the next release TP 1.5, second option is a bit more complex and I've not done yet.

This is also done for TP 1.5, you can drag and drop a image into the editor and it uploads via TPupload functions.

Nice! Looking at the example I would suggest to keep date and time as short as possible. I would lose the year, and use 24 hour format to lose am and pm
