Xarcell

I browsed quickly and didn't see a topic on this, so I thought I'd start one. If there already is one, I apologize.

I like what you have so far Bloc, but I was wondering. How about adding subcatagories beside/underneath the main catagories just like with childboards within the forum? Show the board link and links with it to the childboards. I was wondering if you considered doing the same with the DL manager?

The first I browsed it I got confused, because it listed all the same things again, except the catagories I clicked on. (clicked on TP, then beta releases)

Just a suggestion.

I think Bloc did his job very well. Tiny Portal is one of the best modification for SMF.

So thanks Bloc for your hard work!

I wanted to upgrade to 0.86 because of the download manager, but after using the download manger on this site there are a few things that in my opionion could be improved upon:

usability: First you get thumbnails and names of downloads, then you have to click on the name to get to the real download and some stats etc about it. All of this information could be displayed easily in the empty space in the list of downloads without cluttering the interface. The current approach results in users having to click on the link, wait for a new page to load to see the info, then find out if it is the file they are looking for, go back to the previous page.

I would like users to be able to comment on downloads and rate them. I think the latter has been requested, but i'm not sure about the comments.

I feel current setup is good enough. Its times when you want to display just the download's actual page, omitting that will be confusing. Also, that page is supposed to contain more later on, like rating etc.

The template is the key here..you can pretty much modify that to include download links on the overview page, becuase a download's page is called through ?action=tpmod;dl=itemxx, while actual download is ?action=tpmod;dl=getxx. So by just changing the link in the template you will start downloading it at once instead.

Ah, thx for the quick reply. I'm going to hack a bit into it then :-)

You don't have to omit the detailed download page, you could just at least have a download button and some basic info in the list, but i will code that myself for now.

Any plans for a rating and commenting system?

Download Manager enhancement - show number of files on sub-categories.  Attached are 2 images.

FIRST IMAGE:  Current setup

SECOND IMAGE:  Suggested showing of number of files in sub-categories.

This way users know if there is anything under the category.  Sometimes they don't even go into subcategories because they think they are empty.

Rating/commenting are planned..a bit unclear in which form yet though.

Numbers in subcategories will also be present.
