Is this possible? Has anybody done this?

@rjen

What?

Please explain what it is you are trying to do...

In the US there is a discussion tool called Disqus. You can embed it on personal websites. A lot of newspapers use it for readers to comment. I was wondering if anybody has used it on article pages. Instead of using the built in comment box that you have to register to use. With Disqus you have to be registered with that tool to use it.

@rjen

It would really help if people give a little background about what they want to achieve asking the questions.

Some googling told me what disqus is and it also do brought me to this mod for SMF :  https://www.idesignsmf.com/index.php?topic=244.0

I know your use case and I see why you may want it, but as far as I know this has not come up with TP before: we have our own comments for articles as you know...

By the way: It is possible to hack the comments system to allow guests to comment, though it is not standard.

Tbh your visitors do not want to register in your forum, why would the register on Disqus?

bloc mentioned something like this back in 2015 it's in the team boards somewhere. It didn't make it into TP though in the end.  There was one other request back in 2010 which can be found here, https://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=32165.0

Doesn't seem like it's been requested too many times over the years.  Don't think using OpenID is an option now either.

A lot of people are already registered members of the disqus community because of the fact most news publications use it exclusively for commenting.

You can use the integrate_tp_post_init hook to modify the context array and integrate in that way. I think it should be possible, ideally there should be a hook in the article comments section. I'll add that for TinyPortal 2.1.0 so other mods can integrate in with TinyPortal.

I won't be adding it, but others can if they wish. You'll also probably find people who will do the work cheaper than my rate elsewhere. As I charge between £100-150 per hour for any consultancy work I do.

I just created an article using another portal. https://www.idesignsmf.com/index.php?page=disqus

I created the article and added the script after I populated my article with a simple Lorem Ipsum and an image. So it's hard coded every time we write an article (inserting the disqus script every time). I'm not sure in what file we should modify in TP so the discus comment is always there but I would think, If TP comments are OFF, the disqus script can be added before or after the comment section in the file.
