Title: css handling like SMF for articles
Post by: sangham.net on June 08, 2013, 10:46:27 AM
Dear TP friends and developers,

Coming form the suggestions in  "problem using CSS to write article (newbie) (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=35180.msg280937#msg280937)" from Maxx1, I had to remember the great possibilities on SMF to handle themes and styles and the though arose that it would be even a real good possibility to make all styles for articles on TP easier handle able especially for newcomer to all programming stuff.

The (I don't know if easy make able and how) idea would be to have a similar opinion to change and save themes for articles and also modify them in the dynamic solution SMF presents, where you (without any additional software and less knowledge) be able to see the impacts of your changes immediately. You would be able to chose the theme you like to give the special article.

The issue theme would be an additional menu and in the article creation form, one would be able to choose the theme. I am sure that would also inspire the themes for article "marked", supply and share.

Of course that is all no problem for professionals and "freaks" but it could be a great support to let "outsider" step in to the wonderful possibilities TP actually already have.

Maybe worthy a mod or to be added in the next generation of TP.

Johann... thanks for your suggestions, As yourself we were all new to this stuff, and I know it can an is still somewhat confusing to most and to myself as well, although most of the testing and using as well as setting up your own site, is generally aimed at those whom have some basic knowledge of how most all things are installed and set up!

This is why We all get together to support those who are new, so they have the support that we may not have had at the time we started.

That being said as we discuss this here, there are  some coders out their working on the very things you are concerned about... and again this why people like myself and other s here are testers, so we can put the new ideas to the test and see how they may and or can be used by the New and present User.

SMF for one, is being worked on, ( slowly) in an Alpha version, with many new option.
There are also other variations of SMF and TP being worked on, and the improvements explained by those doing the coding look very promising and also exciting at the same time. These things are mentioned here and on their respective sites.

And as you see here there are always those who are willing to answer the questions you may have!
Documents are also available, and as mentioned they are working hard on making these things more user frindly as we talk here!

regards,
Maxx

Dear Maxx!

Its not really measure able what all those people around and direct involved have been able to develop already and still process on it.
Personally I am more than confident and mostly share some thoughts or chose to put a question or idea in a topic to increase the creativity and possibilities within such. I guess its important that all not only develop the environment but also use the environment at the same time to do so and make it better for its own purpose at least.

So its a turning wheel and such need fuel and its good put fuel into a vehicle driving in a good an exemplary direction and that is not limited to simply material things but also in regard of the general intention an motivation.

But back to the OP, I guess its a really great step between a normal user (simply costumer who feeds on what seems to be great for the moment) and to enter this environment with all its possibilities and as you said, the most important, the support and possibility to give something back.

I guess that the whole theme issue and styling is more joyful and a place to get involved for "normal" people as the programming might seems to be very dry and real heard and even often not valued work.

So far the thought of mine and of course just words and much more behind all this as just to talk about.

Quote"Just as if a man with good eyesight standing on the shore of a body of
water were to see a large fish rise. The thought would occur to him, 'From
the rise of this fish, from the break of its ripples, from its speed, it is a large
fish, not a small one.' In the same way, one individual, in discussion with
another, knows this: 'From the way this person rises to an issue, from the
way he applies [his reasoning], from the way he addresses a question, he is
discerning, not dull.'" — AN 4:192

There are a lot of big fishes here, but they might be a little shy. So we often just see they shadows in the fare. But no doubt.
