I have been battling now for 2 days.  The forums are not clear.  Everyone just says the answers are in the forum.  It is a labyrinth, and I am computer savvy.

Now, please help.  I am sure others are as frustrated.

1. I Installed SMF 1.1.5, successfully. I did not change any settings thereafter
2. I uploaded the TP 1.052 package via the package manager.
3. I clicked apply, which failed.  Then I created the 'temp' directory/folder and applied a 777 policy.
4. re-clicked apply.
5. I got the confirmation that TP is installed successfully.
6. NO tp appears anywhere.
7. The SMF error log refers to a

512: package_flush_cache(): some files are still not writable
    File: /usr/www/users/*****/sandbox/tinyportal/Sources/Subs-Package.php
    Line: 1905

    error only

8. Guys, please help.  Don't refer me to the rest of the forums, unless they are likely to solve this issue.  A sarcastic 'url to search' is nasty, unproductive and is not going to promote the tinyportal system at all.  The product seems great, but I am not very impressed with the community as yet.

kind regards

What a tremendous first post.. congratulations on hijacking a topic. I split it into a new topic.
And a great opener when seeking help. I'm impressed.

Have you checked that the file that the error points to is indeed writable?

Have you checked that all the file's that need to be writable, are?

Manuall install is the way to go as you seem to have permission issues with your host.

How to install maually can be found in the docs we have in the menu and if thats not enough, you have the search and search inside the install board that DO hold all the info you need..

You will not reieve any further help from any of us here with that atitude of yours, YOU are not all that special to us eather, so dont even go down that rout.

Here are the mod instructions for a manual install: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=23127.0

We try our best to help.. Opening posts that start the way yours has doesn't really encourage the members here to help you.

Hi All,
thanks for the prompt reply.  I appreciate the help, and the pointers, really.

Doesn't the ftp engine in smf handle the permissions?  Is there a list of required permissions that I can set prior to the web install?  I am trying to avoid the manual install.  I tried comparing the .php files with the manual changes required.  I stopped when the instructions didn't match the source .php files.

I went through about 200 posts where the first reply to the question posted is a nasty 'go search for it' comment.  That is the reason I posted that way.  I would say that replies like that scare away the noobs (like me).  I was trying to point out the thing that irritated me while reading through all the posts.

ZTN and G6, I see that you are very active in the forums.  I did not want to attack anyone specific.  The forums are there to help.  I did not mean to offend anyone.  Thank you for splitting the topic.

O, and thanx for the consise and 'to-the-point' information!

No problem. A manual install may be your only option. it happens with some server configs unfortunately.
We generally only tell people to use the search if we know for a fact that it has been covered many times.
The boards are becoming saturated with these dead enders.. and it helps nobody, least of all us who also have to use the search.

I had some problems when I upgraded to 1.0.5, they were really because of the amount of mods and customisation I have on my site. A clean fresh install with the correct configuration should breeze through.
Webhosts differ in what they allow, their config's etc. Mine blocks Shoutcast data.. Pain, but we worked around it.

Thanx Chris.  I was trying to avoid this ...
