Updating or Upgrading is a confusing process most of the time.

I've always had trouble with updating TP with Bloc themes.  I regret saying this, because Ichbin, Bloc, G6 are all over these boards taking care of issues.  The support is pretty overwhelming at times, but some of us need another track to run on; I guess.  The support has been great, but putting out fires is tough business and I emphathsize

I do know unless I've got a clear track to run on; upgrading is not something I enjoy.  I don't like hitting or missing with TP.

I was getting ready to upgrade a site  SMF 1.1.1 to TP 0.9.7, and out came the SMF 1.1.2.

A new install:
First I get a good working copy of SMF using the default SMF theme.  I put it through it's paces for proper working order.

Second I install TP package for the SMF version, making sure I have no add-on mods and my SMF is using the Default SMF Theme.  I have had some problems with this because some of the mods...well I don't always keep a good record of   changes I've made.

I do realize however that the reason the SMF default theme is required on install or upgrade of TP or bloc themes is because there are features setup in the default theme that cross over to other those apps.  I guess you could say it is the mother theme or something like that.  I do recall making some changes in the default theme that carried over into my bloc theme.

Third - Then I install the Bloc theme that is designed for use with the TP and the SMF version.

The above may still may not be right.

I lost my TP intallation on one site when SMF went to 1.1.1  and with support from this forums I was able to salvage the forums and keep all the TP data as well.  On that site I currently use the SMF default theme, and the TP data is unavailable to users.   Heck, I caught so much heat from users when I lost the site.  It was a major relief to just get the forums back up.

Upgrading is especially difficult. When upgrading I read the forums and try to determine what is the best procedure to follow.

It would help to always have at least one sticky thread with the complete procedure for upgrading from start to finish - manual and using the package manager.  This would help a lot to prevent having to put out so many fires each time the TP and/or TP theme had to be upgraded with the SMF upgrade version.

This would be the whole purpose for us having a Docs section. More docs are definitely needed though.

I've got the site I was discussing working with the TP version zip file you recently posted using the SMF default theme.
