So, my friend was trying to view our new HOA website on his ipad2. It works, EXCEPT the side blocks aren't there. Works for me in FF, IE, Chrome, Opera and safari, but on his ipad, no. On my iphone, it IS a little funky also... any wisdom for me?

Are you saying they don't show at all? Or do they partially show? You say cut off, but don't really give any details as to what that means. Take a screenshot of it and post it if you can.

Never seen any problems with apple products and sidepanels. If they are not showing, it's likely they have been clicked to upshrink, or they don't have permissions to view the blocks in them or something. Hard to say without actually seeing it.

Although I've been testing and  experimenting with mobile devices and the way the SMF works with them, I've not had many problems viewing most all sites. However in order to understand more on the subject one most research some, on the subject "responsive web design" ,it will take you to many sites that will explain what it takes to make your site and or web pages responsive to the many mobile devices and you will also find that as with all apple mac products there is or they have their own way of doing things and you will also discover this as you research the subject.

I've also been suggesting for several years now that we should be look in the this direction of theme making and design, just not on popular site! At Bloc's site we discussing these things daily!

responsive design is mainly HTML5/ CSS3 and meta tags, page tags and their placement to respond and re arrange things to fit with in the window of a given or detect device!

So far with Android tablets, have not had issues except mainly they are very bright some pages are hard to read or on the eyes. But with small phones of all types you will find at times issue with side panels unless the page or pages are of the "responsive web design".

I do not see this being of drastic concern to SMF and TP or Portals but rather the Themes design/s.

I have already started work on the SMF 2.1 Alpha default theme and will be doing so for some time to try and address these issues, also working on current version themes to see how they respond.

If you want a quick example of how this works, you can visit Bloc's site and slowly shrinking the page width using your browser, it will first place the side panel under the main content, until the menu changes into a drop down menu ( form field ). then with your phone you'll should be able to view the full content of the page... real sweet!

Any more info just search and you'll find what the trend is moving toward!

I can't, not my ipad, but I did see it. What it was, was both sides, the right blocks were not there. Worked fine on every other thing I've tried (except my iphone 4). Looked great otherwise...

I set them to not be allowed to collapse either. I'm sorta picky that way in that I want people to see the site(s) as I made them, not in their interpretation. Bad me.
