Title: Article problems
Post by: Lesmond on September 18, 2021, 04:12:31 PM
Any one notice when writing an article the line spacing changes ie. line breaks get wider.
Its only apparent when viewing the draft, ok when published.

It does make it hard to edit an article

heres the same lines after its published..

Also the font face changes from paragraph to paragraph. ::)

You can see the difference here in the font..

The one above has changed to wider spacing even though I have made no changes..

This has happened on a live site and a test site

both running TinyPortal 2.1.0 and SMF 2.1 RC4

Are you typing in the editor or copy and pasting the text in?

Also are these old articles from the previous editor pre TinyPortal V1.5.0?

Copy/paste and new articles

I am not seeing that...(though I have had this with the old version of the editor)

Some more questions
- What type of article ? BBC or HTML?
- I assume the WYSIWYG editor is active?
- Where are you copying and pasting FROM?
- Perhaps you can attached the 'code' content of that article here?

I suspect the copy and past takes formatting from the source that somehow interferes...

Turn the editor off in article settings, then past the text into a new article and save.  Or have you already tried that?

Also, wasn't there an issue pasting stuff from Microsoft word to SMF generally.

Yeah, copying from Word brings across A LOT of hidden formatting. Generally not recommended

It seems to be ok if pasted as plain text, but I have noticed this happen when copy/pasted from a web page too, and copying text from a facebook post is really bad!

Is it worth noting, a lot of people will be copying from word/web pages and other sources, and wont think to paste as plain text.

Heres the article, I wrote the poems myself btw :)

It's definately worth noting: it was noted before, but it seems to be something not easily solved... I for one have no solution for it...

It's not a great surprise with all that styling in there. I'm not sure else what else you'd expect? We can strip it all on paste but then you'd lose everything and have to do it manually yourself in the editor.

There isn't an ideal solution unfortunately and will always have a compromise.

There is a plug-in that does it for you.

https://www.sceditor.com/documentation/plugins/plaintext/

If you want to edit the code and enable it to see if it helps.

Thanks I'll try that.
