We have discussed about this before. But I just want to ask about the possiblity of taking out the Info-Center totally and put them in blocks.

I know this can be done by hacking the BoardIndex.template.php to do so. Or maybe there are some unknown side-effects if doing it this way(I think some on/off switch of options which are related to the Info-center).

Just an idea for anyone who are interested in making SMF out of IPB shadow.

I can see this come in handy when there are more modules to TP, the forum really needs just the posts, all the other stats/calendar etc. is also interesting for the portal so to speak. I will set this up on my try-out list. :)

As you say, optionable it would have to be. It would also be quite easy to set up in boardindex, just put the whole info center inside a bracket with an IF statement - checking on a tp setting it it should be displayed.

As for sideeffects, only somehow prevent double up the sql calls....the boardindex.php file gets the info anyhow , it would just not be shown. A bit to think about there.

Eh... if you know PHP you could probably code info center elements into PHP-type blocks.

There are still things to be considered. Not just removing the info-center codes and put them into blocks. There is less problem if both blocks and info-center exsist. By now, I want the info-center to get lost and that is quite a lot of modifications to make it clean.

Exactly. It would mean taking out a fair bit of code from BoardIndex.php , I really don't want to touch any more than i have to because it makes it a pain to follow SMF versions.
