Title: 2.0 Block Titles
Post by: jernatety on September 18, 2020, 02:42:08 PM
I made a minor change adding text today to a front panel block. No big deal, it's a block with no title. Some of my blocks have never had titles and the field is empty. However, after I saved the edit it's forcing me to add a title, but I don't want one. Is there any way for me to leave the field empty?

Hmmm, the idea for that was that you need to have a block title to manage your blocks. Did not think that you would put blocks in the site without titles.

:hmm:

opinions?

Yep, you really need titles to know what's what without clicking edit to see what they are. It's the correct way to handle this IMO.  Some people run loads of blocks, some even use the same block, one on the left on the home page, and one on the right in the forum for example.  Naming the blocks simply helps you to manage them.

The fact you can turn the title off shouldn't present a problem going forward, but does mean you have to add titles and turn them off to hide them for existing blocks.

The idea is to use this setting: it will suppress the title bar...

Thank you I'll use the no titles option but I never had Block titles on the top 2 blocks on front panel for 3 years. I didn't try to edit these blocks so I'm not being prompted to put titles in.

It is an update in TP version 2.0.0

I'm ok with removing the block titles. However, when you select this it removes the views on the blocks, comments and write comments. I don't care about losing the author, and date info. I just liked the views and comments because that invites people to comment.

You lost me....

What types of blocks are you talking about? Blocks with author and date info? Comments?
Are you talking about articles in a block ?  Can you provide an example?

Because typically blocks do not even show authors and dates...

Just checked your site, and you are now also removing the title bars from your articles and forum posts (how did you do that?)

That's not what I suggested.. we only talked about blocks

Need to know what you did on the forum posts, because the comments should have stayed there...

Btw if this is an issue for you we can make the block titles optional again in 2.0.0 final

Ok, I assume you switched the Frontpage layout to Simple articles. That indeed does not include the author info and so on... and that is intentionally.

So you want a layout that is not a standard layout... that means you will have to use the custom layout option...
it is not really documented but I can give you some pointers if you post the code that is in there now...

I didn't change the front page config. When I posted that I was being forced to assign article titles I was told in 2.0 they are mandatory now. The only way my blocks would work without titles was by removing titles in said blocks. When I set each block to use Use frame style, but not title style the change has removed author, views, comments, write comment etc.

We were talking about blocks, not articles

Understood.

Hey rjen is your test site for 2.1 the default curve theme? https://test2.fjr-club.nl/ That looks awesome.
