What would be helpful would be a link to alternative smilie packs, not just individual images.

I think its better to create your own smiley pack.. you spend so much time as an admin designing your site so why not spend an evening making your sites smileys perfect for your site :)

Via ftp and what changes would need to be made to smf/tp if any??afther that so they will work,i havent tryed and feel a bit scared to do so :(

Admin > Forum > Smileys and Message Icons > ADD SMILEY   (it is in the nav bar)

I suggest that you read about adding Smiley's over at SMF.
Adding Smiley's is easy but you should read the documentation on it to be better oriented.
