I think the ability to NOT include the creation data for articles would be appealing... along with NOT including (for real) the Title.  This would allow you to create pages that appeared more seamless than they do now with the posting information above them.

whatcha think?

I don't know if this is useful or not. I have removed  all the article top bits, linktree, title, author and date, thereby turning an article into an html or php page.

Articles - How can I remove the Link, title, author and date from the top?

Rocket

Are your changes in addition to the new file that bloc posted? or INSTEAD of?

Rocket

Never mind, I see the one that bloc posted was for 1.0.5

I made the change, however, the article title is still there.

Bloc's file was for an earlier TP version, you cannot use that now. If you look at my post at the end of the thread, the one I linked to, you will see the TPortal.template modifications needed. I did this when the TP version was 0.74b and it still works OK with 0.75b.

I've just been back and checked my template files. This is what you find starting about line 57

This is working with ordinary article pages, I haven't altered the php article code. I have error checked it with php 4.4 & 5.1.ÂÃ,  I have about 15 to 20 pages called from the menu block on my SGR test site and none of them have the article bits at the top.

gerrymo

So these changes in effect make articles into static pages? Could this replace the static page mod pages?

Nokonium

I've never installed the static page mod so I don't know. If you look at my sig and follow the sgr SMF 1.1RC1 link you will be able to see. The 'featured' page is an article, as are all the other complete pages. I'm still working on it hence the oddball link at the top of the menu.

gerrymo

Had a look through your site, and yes, it more or less is like the static page mod. However, the URLs are much better. Yours end: /index.php?page=11 Where as mine end: /index.php?action=static&staticpage=1 So I can cut out all the extra c**p out of it. Plus the benefit of no restrictions on the number of pages. Off to test your code modification on my test rig.

agridoc

I tried the modification above and it cut anly the creation date and time. It took me a while to understand, after reading Articles - How can I remove the Link, title, author and date from the top?, that I had also to comment theme linktree in TPortal.template.php to remove the tree.
// theme_linktree();

Very useful, it has only the limitation that affects all articles. The Static Page Mod seems restricting.

I think it will be useful in future versions of TP these changes to be included as selectable options so they will be on or off according to the needs.
