I really like Tiny Portal, I think being able to build a front site for SMF is very important to communities which require more than just public forums.

I am hoping that feedback suggests that pages and articles can be treated differently than in existing versions. For someone with no development background, I struggle with using TP as a platform to start releasing articles.

Personally, I feel it would be a significant step forward if article content and pages were their own separate elements.

With the possibility of having an easy way to set up demo data so you can make your homepage show articles. Articles within a database or category, with pages in their own system is quite forward to manage. This is my feedback and just a suggestion.

@rjen

Always interested to hear suggestions to improve, thanks for the effort.

I am however struggling to understand what you are asking. Can you elaborate? Examples of what you cannot do may help...

I'm sorry, it seems I am wrong. I thought pages and articles were the same thing. I basically would like to replicate a similar design to my existing site. By showcasing articles prominently on the front page of TinyPortal. Similar to a WordPress site, which publishes articles.

I apologise for the mistake; I should have checked before.

@rjen

Still not sure what the issue is: I am using articles on the homepage here: https://www.fjr-club.nl/index.php

Is set 'What to display on frontpage' to Only Articles and then I selected the Article to show there...

You cannot view this attachment.

In TinyPortal you can basically consider each Article a 'page' on it's own: it will show the article with the 'page' number in the URL even..

Example:
https://www.tinyportal.net/docs/index.php?page=What-is-a-Frontpage

Also each article category can be considered a 'page' showing all articles in the category...

Example: https://www.tinyportal.net/docs/index.php?cat=Frontpage

The "Frontpage" is a special kind of page, allowing you to group various contents together...

I stil do not understand what you are struggeling with. If it is the proces of creating and releasing articles, you may want to read up the docs site here...

Would it be possible to create a block which shows x amount of the latest content, with the option to choose which categories the content is shown from?

@rjen

You can create an articles in a category block. That lists all articles you n a chosen category

Or you code a php block and retrieve the data, but that will require coding

In a future version, could it be considered to allow TinyPortal to work in a root folder if SMF is used within a folder?

mydomain.com <-- Tiny Portal
mydomain.com/forum <-- SMF

I intend to use a different name instead of forum, but it would be nice if TinyPortal could work in the root environment.

You can do that already with the standalone option.

Would you mind telling me the steps to achieve this safely? I'm not sure what I should do to move to the standalone version. I really appreciate the support, and how amazing Tiny Portal is.
