yes its good to have a stable TP 1.0 for SMF 1.1.x. but why not for SMF 2.0 ?
I cant use SMF without TP and surely we cant use TP without SMF .... so we should work together and we should grow up with SMF speed ...

Tp are a mod for SMF, but in no way it goes hand in hand with the development.
TP is built on free time, for the fun, and not for a cometition, or to keep up with SMF.

TP for SMF are developed for both SMF1 and SMF2, but a release for SMF 2 will still be a long time away from to day.
Bloc have stated that TP2 will not be before SMF2 goes final

I think we all  do, but thats all there is at the moment, and for some time ahead.
Bloc released this teaser to the team yesterday, as a "play" thing for us to test for the fun of it.
It cant be installed or used at all on a live site. More or less a shell  ;)

Exactly.  This will ruffle a few feathers, but I think you guys are crazy for just doing this as a side project in your spare time.  TP is a valuable addition to  SMF and is well worth paying for.  Keep up the good work.

The reason some of the team members are testing it, is simply that "its working!" lol :). Currently quite a few things in it just doesn't work :P , but as a quick-look it serves to show that TP2 isn't far away a usable release. It will also benefit from any bugfixes done in TP 1.0 being added to it.

So its no use for you really - save your cash lol - but know that you can use TP v1.0 beta3 soon to be out, and TP2 will later upgrade with no problems from that version(and later 1.0 versions.) The goal is to have TP1.0 final as the working version for SMF 1.1x users, while TP2 will do the same for SMF2 users. Their features will be mostly equal, instead TP modules and blockcodes will be the playground for exciting new features from there on.

I think it's more we are wondering if there's any kind of time table--even a loose one. I mean are we talking a couple of months or several months. ::)

There are some things about SMF 2 that sound exciting and I'd sure like to make the switch, but the TP part is more important. Don't think anyone's not appreciative, I certainly am. It's sorta like being addicted :P

No, there will NEVER EVER be a time table for ANY release of tinyportal.
When is the next version of TP coming out? (http://docs.tinyportal.co.uk/index.php?topic=15)

Probably because Bloc hasn't gotten around to upgrading to 1.1.8 yet.

yeah!  i will be waiting for this one..  for me, i'd rather delay updating to SMF 2.0 without a stable TP 2.0..  TP is very important part of my forum, so i'm willing to wait for it especially TP2.0 for SMF 2.0..

i will have to say, the v2 is very smooth..

im wondering if we are going to get a new default theme for it.. and if bloc has thought of a "basic tp" theme as well.. hmm..

the future is looking very bright ;) :coolsmiley: :2funny:

EH ?? Default theme Smoky ?  TP follow SMF default theme at all times, not matter what theme installed and you choose as your site default, TP follow that look ....

Post by: SmokyBlue on February 08, 2009, 02:31:55 PM
yes G6, i know this,, have known for a long time..  ;)

what i was thinking last night was that its would be nice to see an "official" tp theme for it., since smf is getting a new "look"  :smiley6600:
Title: Re: SMF 2.0 Release Candidate 1 is out!
Post by: G6Cad on February 08, 2009, 02:53:47 PM
Lol, why would TP have it's own theme when it's built in SMF and uses what ever layout that SMF holds ?
2 diffrent themes on the same page ?   how would you go about putting that together ?
Title: Re: SMF 2.0 Release Candidate 1 is out!
Post by: SmokyBlue on February 08, 2009, 03:33:00 PM
did i say 2 differnt themes at one time??  :-X

and yes, you can have more than one theme on at a time, but i think you miss what i am saying, G6.. :D

yes i know tp "is only a mod" ;)

but mods have "dressing" as well. what i am saying is it would be a nice thing to have a "official tp" theme.. no hidden meanings in what i said would be a nice thing.

i think a few people would be proud to have one on their site, and it would promote tp as well.

just like there are promotional avatars on smf now, and all they say is "smf"  :2funny:

and speaking of that, i have a few to do today.. but it is nice to think happy thoughts  :P

I see what you mean, but to me it sould somewhat a "messy" idea.
It will be 2 diffrent payouts if tp holds it's own template ( or colors if you prefer me call it that )
As it's built in SMF, and the user have one theme for SMF, he want to have the same for TP, if notm they can always "lock" a teme to what ever article they like to get diffrent looks for diffrent pages.

Actually I have been thinking about installing a TP theme along with TP - but a bit on hold for now though. This theme would for example render menus directly from TP menu manager.

In any case it would be working as a pure SMF theme too, so its more like TP + custom theme really. One could for example select it to be installed and put as default while in the install process, thats would be quite interesting. I know other portals are getting quite good and will/have surpass TP, but I always found the template/theme aspect one of the most important parts of it - thats why i spend so much time on details on the layout in TP. Functionality is important, but design is almost equally, as thats what the users see - and will modify.

i tend to agree with you Bloc..

and as new people come try things out, they want looks as well as ease to install stuff.. not getting frustrating.. especially with elaborate coding, or coding to them that just looks plain "geek"

tp is still and always will be my first love.. no matter what i use or try out..

you guys taught me a lot.. and yes Bloc thats exactly what im thinking.. lmao!!

how did you read my mind like that.. a "transitional theme" would be a good thing.. especially with the menus and blocks, as well as articles.. say, while updating, installing.. etc., and yes the way you now have the tp, as you can use just plain smf themes, is a good thing and can be more expanded..

will have to give some thought, as im not as good as you, but i do have fun tinkering.. and learning is what we are all here for.. but boy do i have the ideas eh??  :2funny:

I think the idea of a TP theme that installs automatically when you first install TP is a great idea.  It could include 1 of each of the different types of blocks and the default article (I know one already installs now) and when if finished installing you'd be presented with a default look to your Front Page which would highlight all, or most, of the things that can be done with TP.  It would automatically already have a Forum Button setup.

For instance, it might automatically setup 1 of each type of block (left, right, top, bottom, upper, lower) with links to your block settings and instructions on how to turn them off, etc.  The default article on TP might include links on the TP site on how to do things like Adding a Forum Button to a custom theme, a link to the support board on TP, and other common TP questions, etc.

It might include a set of common blocks, like a user block and a stats block, and the other non-common blocks, like a block in the top panel might have content like "This block is an example of a Top Panel Block --- You can adjust the content of this block by going to your Panels and Blocks Settings in your Admin Panel".

Just a few ideas about it.

Actually, TP is more important to me than my forum... I like the portal part and the ability make the site more functional and dynamic. I just want stuff to work :P And especially, I want my assistants to be able to work on it easier... w/ regular static HTML they had a lot of trouble.

Anyway, I digress. Watch, G-6 will show up on my door with a Louisville Slugger and beat the crap out of me :P
