TP won't install

Mr. Ksoft

I have a brand new (about 2 hours old), non-modded install of SMF, and I'm trying to install TP 0.86 on it.  I uploaded it from my computer via package manager, chose to install it.  It passes all tests.  I click Install.  I sit there... for an hour.  Nothing happens.  It just looks like the page is loading.  I check the FTP.  Nothing's been done.  I check the error log.  No errors.  I think the SMF package installer just doesn't like my server, as this happened on my old SMF before it got wrecked.  I don't know what to do about it.  On my last SMF, I tried installing manually, and I couldn't find some of the stuff to replace, but it was modded.  I was wondering if maybe a trusted member of the staff could help me with or do a manual install as they know what they're doing.  If not, does anyone know what's going on with this package manager?

Thanks!

I'd overwrite the SMF files to make sure you have fresh files, then try the manual install. Its not hard to do, quite a few have done it already.

OK, I got through a manual install, but I cheated.

I modified all the files except the ones where the default style is edited, as that caused me problems before (couldn't find something about jscript).  Instead, I just installed TP-ready theme Neptune.  The portal displays (yay), but I cannnot see any blocks, even though in the admin cp they are, in fact, activated.  Where did they go?  You can look at www.ksoftgames.digibase.ca/ksg/

EDIT:  Also, in the top bar (where it says Home, Help, Search...) there is no forum link.  Do I have to add it manually?  If so how do I?

It seems like you have missed something in your install on TP, Your footer doesent say you have TP installed.

the text links "buttons" comes from the install, so no adding needed for buttons in default or in Neptune theme

Did you install the TP in the default SMF theme?

And if you left some files out in your manuall install, i guess thats the reason it doesent show up.

I did not install it onto the default theme, because when I tried the first time around, I could not find the following in index.template.php:

<a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="shrinkHeader(!current_header); return false;"><img id="upshrink" src="', $settings['images_url'], '/', empty($options['collapse_header']) ? 'upshrink.gif' : 'upshrink2.gif', '" alt="*" title="', $txt['upshrink_description'], '" style="margin: 2px 2ex 2px 0;" border="0" /></a>';

I couldn't find it, so I skipped it.  I'll try again though, since the first try was on a modded SMF.

EDIT:  Hmm, I also can't find this:

b>', $context['common_stats']['total_posts'], '</b> ', $txt[95], ' ', $txt['smf88'], ' <b>', $context['common_stats']['total_topics'], '</b> ', $txt[64], ' ', $txt[525], ' <span style="white-space: nowrap;"><b>', $context['common_stats']['total_members'], '</b> ', $txt[19], '</span><br />
', $txt[656], ': <b> ', $context['common_stats']['latest_member']['link'], '</b>
</div>
</div>';

Am I supposed to be editing the old SMF 1.0.x theme?  Or the new SMF 1.1 RC2 theme?

if u can't pull off the manual, try uploading the tinyportal package to the packages folder via ftp. it seems to me like the timeout could be caused by trying to upload the file.

Mr. Ksoft

No, it already uploaded the package.  Then it gives me the option to install it AFTER it's uploaded.  That's when it froze.

Hey Mr. I'm having the same problem as you. The lines that you are supposed to search for just aren't there. Everyone will say "use an unmodified index.template.php". I have done that and it's just not going to work.

Aha!  I know why we can't find it.  Those instructions apply to the Babylon theme (SMF 1.0.x/1.1RC1)!  I easily found what couldn't be found in there.  But it's not the default theme, so will it still work to edit it?  Maybe someone has a premodified index.template.php that can be used on the RC2 theme?

EDIT:  I went ahead and modified the Babylon theme and *poof* my portal works!  BUT only on the Babylon theme.  I need it to work on Neptune.  I tried reinstalling the theme but it didn't do anything.

gerrymo

You need to use a TP enabled Neptune theme. Also, for the new default theme, the manual mod instructions are there, somewhere. You will need to do it to avoid errors.

IchBin

I posted a modified index.template.php file for the default theme in the 0.86 release thread. (I think its on one of the pages in the 30's).

Mr. Ksoft

All right!  I found the file, overwrote my index.template.php, found and installed the TP ready Neptune theme, and I'm now all set!  My portal's working great.  Thanks for everyone's help.
