Title: Big problem after wrong upgrade to TP-skin!
Post by: FataMorgana on October 07, 2006, 12:44:48 PM
Last night I decided to upgrade my forum from 1.0.7 to 1.1RC3.
So far so good, no problems with that.
But then I made a big stupid mistake.
I always used Helios_Multi and wanted to make now TP_Helios_multi.
But after the succesful upgrade of SMF I forgot FIRST to install TP and after that the skin.
I installed the TP_Helios_Multi skin directly...
So now I think my database is corrupt...

http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/ (http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/)

I tried to copy again the SMF-files and upgrade again bu failed.
For a moment I tried to reach the forum with:
http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/index.php?theme=2 (http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/index.php?theme=2)
and succeeded to see the forum again (default skin) but after that I logged out and cannot reach it again...
(I must say the short time I was logged in I removed the skin TP_Helios in the admin section. Then I logged out...)

Do I need to install everything all over again including database?
I have a backup from the data, not from the structure.
Or does anyone know a trick to activate the basic forum?

Thx!

Your database is fine so you can relax about that part.

What you can do now is to manually through FTP upload all the files from the manuall install package from the download section.

Then download the premade manuall install files from the sticky post in the installation board, extract the zip, and upload them to and overwrite your old ones.
Then point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php and refresh your forum, that should bring it back.
Then remove the other themes exept the SMF default ones from the theme folder and then install the TP helios for 1.1rc3 and TP

The SMF 1.1RC3 install file (so not the update)?

What do you mean with this? 'premade' install files?
Tiny Portal?

The rest I think I understand...
Thx for quick response!

manual install and TP files only can be both found here :) http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=cat5

Tiny Portal?

When you do a manuall install of TP, there are some of the SMF files that needs to be changed with adding code in to them.
It can be tricky to do, and especially if you havent done it before.
The files i talked about have all the code added, so they are done and just have to be uploaded and replace the old files you have there already.

The files you find here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?topic=8247.0, they are attached in the post, so just download the zip, extract the files, and upload them to your forum AFTER you have uploaded all the files from the manuall install package that akulion gave you the link to. Then point your browser to the manual_tp_install.php in order to update your with the tables needed for TP to work.

Ok ok, I understand you're talking about TP, manual...
Naturally because this is a TP-forum.
But I'm not so far yet, my first step has gone wrong again:
restore SMF in it's original state...

I thought I had to transfer manual the SMF-files from the original install-zip-file so I did. Now I get again new mistakes using the install:

http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/ (http://www.fatamorganaforum.nl/forum/)

No problem for me install from scratch again but it seems even this is impossible?

What to do now?
Maybe just remove/delete all SMF-files, copy them again and try to install again?
Please this is the first I need to know, after that I will try again TP!

For SMF issues you have to ask on simplemachines. When you have passed the install of SMF and the forum is working you can come here for the portal support if you get in troubble :)

Seems you didn't get all your files replaced if its still looking for TP code.

Yes this stays problem, also after a reinstall of SMF!
Maybe again copy all files or should I just delete them?

@Mrs G6:
Here I expect BOTH knowledge of TP and SMF!
I want install TP + TPskin and this went wrong!
This answer is somehow little smallminded...

Im sorry if you feel that way, but this IS actually TinyPortal, and we provide TinyPortal Support.
Simplemachines is the base of TinyPortal yes, but that doesent mean we provide the support for SMF related issues. As i said, when you have sorted the SMF issues out and have the forum working with out errors, Im happy to give all the support i can to help you get TP to work in your forum.
So please, keep the diffrent support issues a part, SMF is SMF, and TP is TP.

To make it easier for you, do this:

- Upload the SMF upgrade package and run upgrade.php. That makes sure you have the original SMF files again. Leave the databse as it is, it will get corrected if any errors.

- locate the Helios normal SMF version and upload it to your now TP Helios folder..it will then work as a normal SMF theme should.

- then..if you want to use TP, use package manager to install that. If it doesn't work, THEN you need to do a manual install of TP.

- when TP is working , simply upload the TP Helios again.

Thanks Bloc for your respons!
At this moment I am back to the situation that the forum is basic working with SMF 1.1RC3 again.
After copy and copy again (FTP-errors!) I could use install.
Upgrade did NOT work... But that can be reason of FTP-errors and so having not the right files on all places...

But now...
I tried TP 0.95 beta because of the NL-package not yet ready for the official 0.95.
In the package manager I get an error not all the files can be overwritten.
Also after giving the right FTP-user/pw I get an error the file or folder "forum" should not excist... But it does.
So it seems I need to do it manual.
In that case I read there is need to change much code in the files?
That frightens me a little...

Petty, I have allready a forum working with TP 0.86 and the Aero79-skin:
http://www.croatiahrvatska.eu/portal/index.php (http://www.croatiahrvatska.eu/portal/index.php)
Also the Juno skin works fine there!

Now with 0.95 on another forum I have much problems...
The package 0.86 cannot be used in the package manager, is that right?

First off Rule NR 1

Never EVER install any mods or other themes before you have a WORKING SMF forum.

Thats why over 60% of all installs of mods ends up with a lot of errors and tears.

When you have a working forum, install TP first, and when you have TP working on your SMF setup.
THEN go for the TP themes you want to install.

And with your FTP errors, have you tried FileZilla ? It's a free ware and it's great !

It seems you have a big status as hero member...
But reading is not your strongest issue, sorry...
This is second time we meet and not too nice...

First of all rules: I HAD a fine working SMF forum without any mods or active skins, etc. I have written that!
Second: I TRY to install TP before I go on further.
The reason for the trouble stated in my first post was I THOUGHT I had a TP-package...
Now I don't make that mistake again.

About FTP: I always use WsFTP, used to work fine.
But next time I will try filezilla too. Thx.

So...
Now I seem not to manage with the Package Manager...
What do you advise to install manual?
I want a DUTCH forum so I think about 0.95 beta with later install the dutch language files.
But later I want install Helios_Multi skin.

Are there options without changing the code as I read somewhere?

What can i say, Im a Bitch , and im an analfabet to...

If your package manager work, use it, always the best and fastest way to go if it works with your server and setup.

If you go with the package manager, use the full package of Tinyportal found here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item328

Upload it through your package manager and let it do the work and cross the fingers that it works.

When and if it works, you have to install the language pack from SMF first, and then for TP and dutch package are here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item353

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you for some reason fail the Tp install through your package manager, you have to go with the manual install.
The manual install package are here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item327
Download the package, extract the files, upload them manually and then download the premade file i made for you here http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=8247.0;attach=6154
extract the zip and upload the files to and overwrite the old ones.
Then point your browser to http://www.yoursite.com/forum/manual_tp_install.php and you will have an updated DB

All this provided to you from TPs bitch, not bad at all for an analfabet ;)

Well I had to do the above option...
Seems to have succeeded...
After the manual_tp_install I had all positive text and after that opened the index... Saw an article "Welcome to TP...etc."
But...
NO forum.
Using button home keeps article.
In Admin section see all boards, all standard SMF1.1RC3 options but NO TP-options.
Only the TP-article on the Home.
So I changed that in the options below (edit article) that this may NOT been seen anymore.
Now my HOME keeps empty.
In the Admin section still NO TP options...

What can be wrong again?
My forum is in maintenance mode.
Will I open it for a while to let you see?

Ha ha... I know (read profile info! ;))
Well G6 told herself she's an alfabet so I decided to quote her instead of being smart again.  ;D

Well as a nervous forum admin I maybe reacted somehow rude because for you specialists you deal with too much different people saying things they don't actually do so...
(I know, have experience as a servicedesk employee!)

But in the end we found eachother and together solved the problem.
That's the goal we're working for!

And now lateron I go further with my forum, so I'll be back when meeting next problems... ;)

There are fixes, and they will come in the next update release of TP.

I was thinking: 'When I don't post errors you will ask for them...' So I just copy/paste quickly.
As a matter of fact the big number of same error-reports gave me the idea maybe I miss something and it's solved allready.

Maybe last question for now:
The language files I downloaded from the dutch part don't work.
They seem to be made for the beta-version.
In my TP 0.9.5 I can't find it's the beta however I thought I had installed this!
Is there a way to discover I use the beta or the official?

Don't know how you tested it then... The forum was still closed and you never can see how to select somehow the dutch language...
In fact that is impossible however the right files are on the right places!

But now I get a new error:
Because most old members had the standard language on dutch now they login still with "dutch" as language.
Because this doesn't work they miss some buttons and texts.
And I don't see any option for individual members to change their language.
What now...

Btw, I put the 4 dutch language files in both themes: Default and Helios_Multi, in the folder Languages.

Uploaded the files to my own testforum and checked ;)

Helios need to have BUTTONS to, not only the language files. And you have to create an image folder in the same place as you have the English one, and name that folder Dutch and upload Dutch translated images in to that folder.
