How did you do to make Post and Topic show in 2 different cells in the forum index table?

The original module has both Post & Topic in 1 cell.

The default theme has both in one cell, yes, but the classic theme for instance , has them in separate ones. If you look at BoardIndex.template.php in the classic theme you will see that is done bye using to <td>'s instead of one.
