Core Files

I am in the process of transferring files over right now and am looking in my FTP and I notice a ton of these core files.

'They are titled core.1441, core.1357 etc. etc. 

Most of them are 0kb in size but I have a few that are multiple megabytes.

core.28965 13.1MB
core.28973 13.2MB
core.1297    10.1MB
core.13.23   16.4MB


and also my error log is 2.25MB

Do I need to bring these over or should I just forget about them?  What are they anyways?

btw, I have a total of 40 core files, those 5 are the big ones and the rest are all 0kb

i dont think theres need to copy them over,
if you think you do need them just copy the 5 big ones

You shouldn't need those for your site to work. I think that is server related, and not site related. Never hurts to make a copy of them to your comp though. Then just install your files and you'll see if you need them or not.

Those a "core dumps" ... a *nix server dumps those when a process terminates abnormally.

Core dumps are the state of a process when it croaked and are used by sw gurus to backtrace what went wrong.

If code is compiled with special flags the core dumps can be huge as they contain extra debugging information.

A few core dumps every once in awhile is not unusual.

In general, just delete them.
