You don't have to do an uninstall. But I think it's better to do it that way. Either way should work though!

ok thanks I'll try it out at my test forum first, I would rather upgrade otherwise I have to set it all back up from zero.
Portal, blocks and all and that is a lot of work.

What a difference this makes. My logs were full of undefined index errors as well as article problems , the shoutbox etc but it's all fine so far with this update.

Time to start install of SMF and TP again, will test things a bit and see how it works, must say it looks really great here on TP
