The forum side of the site is called from the boardindex.template.php, so if you just fixed the index.template.php, you get this with fine in frontpage but not in the forum as that uses an other file.
You need to get all the effected template files fixed for the width, i say better to leave it to rebelrose or shoot Crip a PM and ask him to help you, he knows the changes through the themes and he probably knows what to chage and where

I see from looking that RebelRose hasn't been on site for over 2 weeks and is busy with work so may need to ask Crip for pointers to this one.
