custom page inside of portal, linked by menu item?
« on: January 06, 2009, 14:29 »
Hello everyone!

I have just begin using tinyportal, you can view my site at www.det-1.com.

Now, if you look at the navigation block on my left hand side, you can see how my first link says awards.

I am trying to make it so that when users click on that link, the center article changes to that page.

I understand that I create an article, then link to it.

I am very confused by the process, especially when it comes to terms such as 'Query title' and everything else.

Could somebody help me do this step by step?

I have sifted through the iframe guides, but I just get confused  ::)

You described it exactly how you should do it. The query title is a way for you to change the look of the URL when you access that article. For instance, lets say that when you access the article is says this:
http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?page=6

If you put the words "php_rules" in the query title your URL will now look like this when you hit the article:
http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?page=php_rules

Linking to the article from your menu to the article is exactly what you do. Not sure what else you need explained.

If you check out http://www.det-1.com/index.php?page=awards, you can see that everything is being copied twice.

For my article:

exceptional manner. Performance of duties normal to the grade,
branch, specialty or assignment, and experience of an individual is
not an adequate basis for this award. For service not related to
actual war the term "key individual" applies to a narrower range of
positions than in time of war and requires evidence of significant
achievement. In peacetime, service should be in the nature of a
special requirement or of an extremely difficult duty performed in
an unprecedented and clearly exceptional manner. However,
justification of the award may accrue by virtue of exceptionally
meritorious service in a succession of important positions.</font></p>

Thank you!

I have been playing with the code for about an hour now.

On the awards page linked in my previous post, the white border around the awards sections i snot properly aligned (it doesnt line up at the same height as the top of the left block news ticker), and the right white line is missing.

Could someone ever go through this code below for that page and optimize it?

The blockquotes, fonts, and breaks are really scattered.

The Silver Star is awarded to a person who, while serving in any
capacity with the U.S. Army, is cited for gallantry in action
against an enemy of the United States while engaged in military
operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force, or
while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in armed conflict
against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a
belligerent party. The required gallantry, while of a lesser degree
than that required for award of the Distinguished Service Cross,
must nevertheless have been performed with marked distinction.
Soldiers who received a citation for gallantry in action during
World War I may apply to have the citation converted to the Silver
Star Medal.</font></p>

<b>Criteria:</b><br>
The Legion of Merit is awarded to all members of the Armed Forces of
the United States without reference to degree for exceptionally
meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and
achievements. The performance must have been such as to merit
recognition of key individuals for service rendered in a clearly
exceptional manner.

Part of your problem, especially with the border not showing on the right is that you've got your td width set to 52% for both columns.  Try setting each to 50%, or maybe even 49% and see if that helps anything.
