Which release to use

I am running smf 1.0.8 and not sure what relase of tp to use.  Should i use the manual installation files?

We dont recomend using the latest version of Tp V.097 on SMF 1.0.8 nor do we give support for that version of SMF anymore as SMF have turned in to SMF 1.1 final recently.
What we recomend you to do is to upgrade your SMF to SMF 1.1, then download and install TP V.097 through the package manager, then download and install the SMF patch 1.1.1 and you have a fully working safe SMF setup with TinyPortal system to it.
SMF files you find on Simplemachines.org, and the TP V.097 you find in the download section on this site.

Although, TP 0.9.7 should still work on SMF 1.0.8.

What would happen if I install SMF 1.1.1 -- a full install and then apply/install TP097?  just wondering?

ye it doesnt work on smf 1.1.1 there are so many damn versions of everything, it turns out that version 1.1.1 doesnt like the tp097 mod. Any ideas can i just change my version of smf to 1.1 but that would be a down grade?  No chance?

Uninstall the 1.1.1 patvh and install TP, then install the 1.1.1 patch again and it works just fine
